First-Gen NSX 1-Year Update: Regamaster EVO Wheels, Pride V2 Exhaust & Interior Changes

One year in, John walks around his first-gen NSX: forged Regamaster EVO wheels on Yokohama Advans, a Pride V2 exhaust, an OEM cluster, a Type S style knob and a Dasaita double-DIN head unit.

Yes — you can install Dasaita on the Parts shown are on John's first-generation (NA1) Acura NSX with a 11 min DIY job. One year in, John walks around his first-gen NSX: forged Regamaster EVO wheels on Yokohama Advans, a Pride V2 exhaust, an OEM cluster, a Type S style knob and a Dasaita double-DIN head unit.

Overview

A one-year ownership update on John's black first-generation NSX. He keeps it "OEM plus": JDM-made forged Regamaster EVO five-spoke wheels on sticky Yokohama Advans (17s up front, 18s in the rear), a Pride V2 exhaust and a slightly lower stance, with the long factory taillight and stock wing left alone. Inside, the white-face gauges went back to the OEM cluster, a Type S style shift knob from SOS replaced a fake-carbon Momo knob, and a matte carbon double-DIN trim holds a universal Dasaita Android head unit with wired and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, his favorite mod in the car. He also covers maintenance (oil, spark plugs, new glass and trunk dampers) and the Shine Armor products he uses to keep a black car clean. No turbo plans: stock power (about 270 hp, per John) is enough for him.

    Video chapters

    Step by step

    1. 1

      Keeping a black car clean▶ 0:16

John uses the Shine Armor graphene ceramic spray like a spray wax after washing: a bit of gloss, a hydrophobic coating, and no streaks on black paint. He also uses their glass cleaner and a pumpkin spice interior cleaner.

    2. 2

      Regamaster EVO wheels▶ 1:29

The biggest change: JDM-made forged Regamaster EVOs with white finish and Yokohama Advans. The five-spoke design echoes the early-90s NSX "fat five" wheels with a more modern dish. White wheels show brake dust when he drives the canyons hard, even with a ceramic coating, but they're still easy to clean.

Tip: John's sizes: 17x8 with 215/40 tires up front and 18s with 265/35 tires in the rear (he says he believes these are the specs).

    3. 3

      Pride V2 exhaust▶ 3:35

Everything else outside stays mostly stock, apart from a Pride V2 exhaust. He gave the car a full paint correction detail so there are very few swirl marks.

    4. 4

      Keeping the OEM look▶ 4:09

He considered a Type R style wing but kept the long-style taillight and factory look, with just the wheels and a slightly lower stance.

    5. 5

      OEM gauge cluster▶ 5:12

The white-face gauges with blue lighting are gone. John thinks the OEM cluster looks classier and less tacky.

    6. 6

Shift knob and cup holder▶ 5:48

A Type S style shift knob from SOS replaced a fake carbon Momo knob, with the Type R shift boot the car came with. A small cup holder also holds some phones, depending on size.

    7. 7

      Matte carbon double-DIN trim▶ 6:56

He prefers matte carbon inside because gloss carbon would add reflections around an already-reflective screen.

    8. 8

      Dasaita double-DIN head unit▶ 7:20

A universal double-DIN unit from Dasaita, his favorite of the several units he's run in this car (including a 13-inch and an ultra-wide). It has wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and John says it really wakes up the speakers because the source material is better than tape or FM.

Tip: He kept the original OEM radio setup so the car can return to stock if he ever sells it.

    9. 9

      Maintenance and dampers▶ 8:52

Oil change, spark plugs, and new glass hatch dampers and trunk struts from SOS (Honda parts). The old ones were gassed out and wouldn't hold the glass up.

    10. 10

      No power adders▶ 9:38

No turbo or headers planned. Stock power (about 270 hp, per John) is enough; he wants to keep it pure and OEM plus.

0:00Hey guys, it's your boy John.

0:01We're gonna be taking a look at the NSX.

0:04All the changes I made and yeah, just an update on the car.

0:16I got some clean products from Shine Armor.

    0:20So I have a Graphite Spray,

0:23which I can just show you guys real quick.

0:24This is like a nice ceramic.

0:27It just have a little bit of gloss.

0:28So you can see right here,

    0:29I'm gonna spray it.

0:33Just get that nice and clean.

0:34Now I already washed my car,

0:36but I like to use this as a kind of like a spray wax.

    0:41And that's a really good job

0:42to give it that nice hydrophobic coating.

0:45And also sometimes when after you wash your car,

    0:47you leave little streaks,

0:48but with a black car is a lot of maintenance.

0:51So shout outs to Shine Armor

0:53for hooking up with some clean supplies and without them.

0:58You know, I can't keep my car looking always clean.

1:01Some of the products they have is the glass cleaner.

1:04And then they have Shine Armor pumpkin spice,

    1:07which is my favorite smell.

1:09This is like an interior cleaner.

1:10Give it that nice holiday smell.

    1:12Thumbs October, that fall season.

1:15So yeah, thank you for Shine Armor

    1:17for keeping my car clean.

1:20I'm gonna, black car is gotta keep clean.

1:23So let's talk more about the car.

1:25The number one thing that pops up

1:27since the last time we talked was,

1:29I got these, if you wanna come down,

    1:31I got these Regamaster EVOs.

    1:34These are the JDM made.

    1:35So that means it's the,

1:37the reman manufacturer one from Japan.

    1:39So these are forged.

1:40And I got these with the Yokohama Advans.

    1:43They're super sticky.

1:45You can see they are white.

1:47So it has that JDM kind of type R look.

1:50Now they do, these things are, I do beat on them.

1:54So I'm like driving hard on the canyons

    1:56and stuff like that.

1:57So you can see a ton of brake dust.

1:59But that's kind of like how it goes with white wheels.

2:01Even getting it coated with ceramic.

2:05It's still pretty easy to clean,

2:06but these are really nice wheels.

    2:08I like the five spoke.

2:09So it keeps it very similar to the original 91 to what, 94 94.

2:15They had like the fat fives.

2:16This kind of gives it that same look,

2:18but a little bit more modern with the dish set up.

2:20And then, you know, it just looks all modern.

    2:23I really like these wheels.

2:25It was up to these or the T-E's.

2:27Now the tire size you guys are wondering

2:30what kind of the specs are these.

    2:31These are I believe 17 by eight.

2:34And this is the tire is 215.

    2:41It's the tire is 215 40s by 215 40s into the 17s.

2:47So you got 17 in the fronts.

2:48And if you want the rear, the rear are 18s

2:51and the rear are, I forgot the tire size 265.

    2:5735 35 18s.

    2:58So yeah, these look great.

    3:02I like the little sides.

3:04They are getting a little bit ripped off just from

3:08just being on when I wash them over pressure washer.

3:11But yeah, I like the look with the stickers on

3:13and you can always replace the stickers.

3:15Also, I ran them without the stickers and I like them

3:20but either look, it depends on how I feel.

3:23I might just take all the stickers off

3:24and just leave this one on

3:26because it has a cleaner look.

3:28But yeah, so I got the Regamaster EVOs in.

    3:32the, as.

3:33As you can see, everything else is the still pretty stock.

3:35Since we last talked to, I'm not sure

3:38but I did change the exhaust to a Pride set.

    3:41This is a Pride V2.

    3:43It's all cadded.

    3:44It's all small, same.

    3:45Same, same, same.

    3:46So Pride V2 exhaust.

    3:49I gave

    3:57gave the whole car detail.

3:59So there's no swirl marks or there's very little swirl marks.

4:02The paint, I mean, you can see all these other cars.

    4:05We have all black cars.

4:07Which I give them in tip top condition.

4:09I was debating whether I would change this

    4:11to a Type R style wing.

4:13But now something about that long style tail light.

4:16You guys want to see the long style tail light.

    4:19It's hard to beat.

4:21So I could change a lot of things

    4:24but for this time,

4:26I just want to keep it nice and OEM

4:28with just the wheels and then

4:31the suspension a little bit lower.

4:33But yeah, if you want to

4:48so let's show an interior, because I did change the interior up a little bit.

    4:52Since my last previous video,

4:58let me get all these Shine Armor.

5:00I'm going to keep the key card clean.

5:03I do have a dog so there's a lot of fur.

5:06But yeah, once you sit in the passenger seat,

5:09we can talk about what else is there.

5:12So since my last full 4K edition,

5:18I changed the cluster right here.

5:20So the clusters used to have a white face,

    5:22which I didn't really like.

5:24Let me show them the white face.

5:26This is really nice and OEM.

5:29This is more classy and it doesn't look as tacky.

5:35The white faces with the blue.

5:37I mean, it was different at the time.

5:39I guess different could be cool.

5:41But honestly, just the OEM looks a lot better.

5:45And what else did I change?

5:48I changed the shift knob right here.

5:50I used to have a Momo fake carbon fiber one.

5:52This is a Type S style from SOS.

    5:56It looks really good.

5:58I got the car with this Type R shift boot.

6:01And then I also have, I forget what this is called,

6:04but I do have a little cup holder now.

6:06It holds cups and it also can hold some phones,

    6:09depending on your phone's size.

    6:11Which is really nice.

6:13I got this piece right here.

6:15You guys know I have an Android head unit.

6:18My channel is mostly about radios and stuff.

6:21So I had to get a double DIN.

6:24Let me get this quick spray right here.

6:28Get nice and cleaned up for you.

    6:30.

    6:32That pumpkin spice.

    6:34What's so funny?

6:40Okay, the thing is I have a dog.

    6:42I have a corgi.

6:44And this dude loves licking stuff.

6:46He licks this screen some time.

6:48His head's poking out right here.

6:50And you can just licking this.

6:52You gotta keep the car clean.

6:56Alright, so I got the carbon fiber and matte.

6:59I think the matte kind of blends in with the trim better than the glossy.

7:03I'm not a huge fan of glossy carbon fiber.

7:06There's parts where it belongs like the exterior of the car.

    7:09But interior-wise.

7:11I don't want too many reflections.

7:13This display right here is already kind of reflective.

7:15But imagine this whole center console being reflective.

    7:18It could be blinding.

7:20The head unit itself is a double DIN universal from Dasaita.

7:24This is my favorite head unit that I had in the car.

    7:27I actually had several ones.

    7:29I had a 13 inch.

    7:31I had an ultra wide.

    7:33It also has Apple CarPlay.

    7:35Wired and wireless.

    7:37And Android Auto.

    7:40Wired and wireless.

    7:42I use an Android.

7:44I love the wireless features of it.

    7:47Really good head unit.

    7:49Really wakes up the speakers.

    7:51Just makes it a daily.

7:53I still have the OEM setup and all that.

    7:56I'm definitely gonna keep that.

7:58If I do sell the car.

8:00It would be more desirable for people to have a stock setup.

8:03Or they can return to stock.

8:05Honestly, if you do drive your car.

8:07You don't want just FM and AM.

    8:09A tape-player and a 6 CD-changer in the back.

    8:11You want USB.

    8:12You want Bluetooth.

    8:13You want GPS.

8:15This is the whole 9 yards.

8:17Because I'm playing it with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

8:20The audio quality is just so much better.

8:22Because I get better source material.

8:24If you're playing it off of a tape.

    8:26That's an analog signal.

8:28Doesn't sound good to sing with FM radio.

8:30This is one of my favorite mods.

8:32It just makes the experience so much better.

8:35What else did I change about this interior?

    8:37Besides just cleaning it up.

    8:39That's it.

8:40I used to have a Broadway mirror right here.

    8:42From the previous owner.

8:45It got hit right here a lot.

    8:48That's good.

8:49The rest of the stuff are just maintenance.

    8:52What else did I change?

    8:54The oil change, spark plugs.

    8:56I can't really show.

8:58I also changed out these dampers.

    9:00They're really expensive.

9:02But it really holds the glass up.

    9:04I got these from S-O-S.

    9:06What else?

    9:07Also the trunk.

    9:08It's pretty messy.

9:10But I got the trunk struts.

9:12Which are really pretty expensive too.

    9:14But I got them from S-O-S.

    9:16They're actually a Honda part.

    9:18I didn't have those dampers.

9:20The old ones were just really gassed out.

9:22So they just kept on doing this.

9:24Every time you close it, just close.

9:26It's a nice quality of life

    9:35life.

    9:36Overalls.

    9:37That's it.

    9:38The NSX lives.

9:39Some people are like, are you going to turbo it?

9:41Are you going to do this and that?

    9:43No.

9:44I'm not going to do anything.

9:45I just want to keep it maintained.

9:47If I don't have a new car, just really just

9:49getting that shift knob and just rolling through

    9:51their gear.

    9:52Stock power is like, 270.

    9:54That's good enough for me.

9:56I'm not going to do any headers or anything like that.

9:58The way the car is, is great.

10:02If I want more power, I could get more coffee

    10:04from other cars.

10:05That Tesla right there, it's way faster than this.

10:08But it's all about keeping it pure.

    10:10Okay nom it's OEM plus.

10:13You know, just keeping it, not going too

10:15power adders and stuff like that, that's what I meant, but.

10:19If you guys liked that video, just the NSX update,

10:23I know we kind of talked about it pretty fast,

10:28but this car didn't need too much.

10:30I think just having it like this is perfect,

10:34just, oh man, it's a good looking car.

10:37But anyways, if you guys were interested

10:39in any of the products, I'll put some products
