iDoing QLED Wireless CarPlay: Honda Accord 2008–2012 Full Install (AUX Setup + Clock Display Relocation)

Strip the 8th-gen Accord's console and center stack, pull the radio and the upper clock display, plug in iDoing's Y-harness, run audio over AUX through the factory radio, then rehouse the old display lower down so you keep volume and tone controls.

Yes — you can install iDoing on the iDoing QLED head unit for the 2008–2012 Honda Accord (AliExpress and eBay links in the description) with a 22 min DIY job. Strip the 8th-gen Accord's console and center stack, pull the radio and the upper clock display, plug in iDoing's Y-harness, run audio over AUX through the factory radio, then rehouse.

Overview

John and the owner fit an iDoing QLED screen in a 2008 Accord. It's a big teardown on an older car with brittle plastics, so go slowly. Open the armrest and pry up the console (two clips at the back, a center clip and side clips, all tight), release the cigarette lighter, then remove the cubby with a Phillips (including two hidden screws) and an 8mm bolt with a washer you have to feel for. The silver trims pop off with iDoing's included plastic tools (watch the sensor plug behind one). The center stack panel comes off after two screws; unplug the hazard, airbag light and climate control plugs. The radio comes out (one tab needs a flathead), and the upper display, which on this car is just a clock, comes out with four 8/10mm bolts and two Phillips screws. The new screen clips right in and doesn't block the view. This setup isn't fully integrated: iDoing's Y-harness plugs between the factory display cable and the radio, and a small Y adapter feeds the new unit's audio into the factory radio's AUX. So you keep the original radio for AM/FM, set it to AUX with the volume up, and use the new screen for wireless CarPlay. To keep the volume and tone controls, John pops the old display out of its housing and rehouses it below the new unit, blacking out the gaps with electrical tape, then reassembles the stack bottom-up with iDoing's screws and trim.

Video chapters

Step by step

  1. 1

Start at the center console▶ 0:30

Clear the cup holders, open the armrest and pry around the two clips at the back. There's also a center clip and clips along each side, and they're tight.

  2. 2

    Release the cigarette lighter▶ 1:00

Press its clip and pull it out. Some cars have heated seat switches here too; unplug those.

  3. 3

    Remove the cubby▶ 2:23

A regular Phillips does the bottom screws, plus two hidden screws higher up. Unscrew and pull slowly.

  4. 4

    Find the 8mm bolt▶ 4:28

There's an 8mm bolt with a washer you have to feel around for. Keep every fastener in a cup holder so nothing gets lost.

  5. 5

    Pop the silver trims▶ 4:54

Use plastic trim tools (iDoing includes some). They're held by clips; one has a small sensor plug behind it.

Warning: On an older car the plastics are brittle. Some clips broke on this one, so use even pressure.

  6. 6

Remove the center stack panel▶ 6:04

Pry up from the top area to reveal two screws, remove them, then pull the panel straight out. Unplug the hazard button, airbag light and climate control plugs.

  7. 7

    Pull the radio▶ 8:16

One tab needs a flathead to pop. Then the whole radio comes out.

  8. 8

    Remove the upper display▶ 8:30

On this car it's just a clock, but it has to come out to make room. Remove the shroud, four 8/10mm bolts and two Phillips screws on top.

Warning: Keep tools off the screen so you don't scratch it.

  9. 9

    Test-fit the new screen▶ 10:05

It clips right in and doesn't block the view of the road or the wipers.

  10. 10

    Connect the Y-harness▶ 11:26

iDoing's harness is a Y adapter: unplug the factory display cable, plug it into the iDoing harness, and the harness carries on to the radio and the new unit. The harness is zip-tied together so it acts as one.

  11. 11

Keep the factory radio, add AUX▶ 12:35

Plug everything back into the original radio, with a small Y adapter feeding the new unit into the factory AUX. The original radio still handles AM/FM; the new screen plays through AUX.

Tip: No sound? Put the factory radio on AUX and turn its volume all the way up.

  12. 12

    Hazard and A/C plugs▶ 14:20

Remember the two plugs for the hazard light and the A/C climate panel before you button things up.

  13. 13

    Rehouse the old display▶ 16:08

Remove four screws, pop the display out of its existing housing with fingers or a flathead (it's clipped), and fit it into the new housing with the cleaner side toward the screen. Secure it with four screws.

Tip: John blacked out the gaps with electrical tape so it looks cohesive.

  14. 14

    Reassemble bottom-up▶ 18:09

Use iDoing's four screws for the display bracket and the remaining screws for the trim. Fit the bottom piece first, then the second and third. Push the wires back as you go.

  15. 15

    Test▶ 19:18

Side USBs, wired and wireless CarPlay and music all work. Run the factory volume high and control volume from the new screen; you still use the relocated display for bass, fader and settings. Check the A/C and hazards.

0:00take this one here for this one for the Honda board, what year is it Honda board? 2008 yeah that's nice alright so at this point we're just fishing the wires alright so the first thing you want to tackle to tackle is the center console area you

0:33All right, so the first thing you want to tackle is the center console area.

0:37You got the cup holes and stuff. Make sure everything is clear like we talked about.

0:41now you see you have to open the armrest up and then you want to you want to pry around these two

0:45areas there's two clips so you want to do like right here and right here after that there's only

0:50some more clips here so you want to pry it open open open open now I already got a preloose so

0:57you're going to have to wrestle with it and after that there's a little cigarette lighter in

1:00And after that, there I little cigarette lighter.

1:04In some cars you have heated seats, you need to adjust that.

1:08For the cigarette, there is a clip right here.

1:11You press it and you be able to pull it out.

1:15Let me show you the clips, because it is actually pretty tight.

1:22All right, so you have these two clips right here that we talked about initially.

1:26And then you have the center clip and each clip on this side.

1:30So let's look over here so you can get an indication of where you need a clip at.

1:35So pry right here, right here, and you want to hit it right here.

1:40This area, there is four clips pretty tight and you can actually see that this one actually

1:45kept into its thing.

1:49So this is the clip.

1:50Make sure we put it back in here.

1:53There you go. I think there's supposed to be one more, but I don't see it. I'm not sure if I fell.

1:59But you see these clips right here?

2:00But you see these clips right here,

2:02pay attention to those.

2:05all right cool so that's out of the way and that's one of the harder spots so if

2:12you guys can get that and you guys done that and literally I only use these tools

2:15in my fingers if what it's gonna do is it's gonna expose these heads right here

2:22that we're gonna have to use to remove this cubby thing now you might have to

2:27that it shipped it into a different gear.

2:30You might be able to pop that and just drop the gear.

2:35I'm going to put in first gear.

2:37It's probably not going to let me take the keys out.

2:39But when you take this part out, you could you be able to squeeze it out more.

2:50So I'm going to use this little power tool, but you'll be able to just use a

2:55regular Phillips head drive.

2:57And so I'm going to put this in a little cup holder right there.

3:00So I'm gonna put this in the little cup holder right there.

3:05It's not going nowhere.

3:11So for this cubby removal, we did the bottom one.

3:14You need, there's two hidden ones up here.

3:16Let me see if you guys can get a look at that.

3:18Just know that there's two hidden screws down here.

3:21It's a screwdriver and I don't know if you can see that it's

3:27a little bit tricky it.

3:28but you unscrew it

3:30pull slowly and hopefully nothing falls out in this case it fell it fell out into the little cubby

3:38hole, let's see if I can remove this piece, there you go, and you can kind of see the two

3:49screw holes right here, a little bit better, again we are making great progress, after we

3:57remove that cubby we can now get access to these bottom bolts you can't see it

4:03so I'm gonna just show you right here I can't even see it I

4:04Show you right here. I can't even see it. I'm. Just feeling around. It's gonna be right, right here. There's two of them

4:12And they're not actually torque very well, so I

4:15barely even

4:17Unscrewed it and now it's coming out. Remember what I said make sure you don't drop it

4:24So I got one it looks like this

4:27It's an 8 millimeter with like a crusher nut in a washer

4:33crusher nut and a washer. So where I'm gonna put it. A little cubby and then next one I don't see.

4:41Again you just want to feel around. It's just kind of lame it's gonna be like great.

4:48There it is. We're gonna put it in our cup holder. So the next thing is we have to

4:57remove these trim pieces. These silver trim pieces. I use the tools these plastic trim

5:00I use the tools, these plastic trim tools, these are actually included with I-DOOM again.

5:04So you want to just pop it out, it's just held by clips.

5:08You can see the two clips.

5:12You have a little sensor thing. These are usually

5:16either airbag or climate control.

5:24Next thing we do is remove this side. Again, this is held by clips.

5:28So, I like to start from the bottom because you can't see scratches or anything.

5:43D's are just held by clips but just be careful with this because this car looks like it's been sent for a bit

5:49So the plastics are a little bit brittle. So actually some of these clips actually broke off

5:58The way we, we did it so let's just back on. On it

6:04We started from this this this area right here and we pride up and we pride in and

6:09and this piece is very fragile just be careful and that will reveal this little

6:18screw right here and this little screw right here and of course these little

6:23stickers are hiding some cracks but these uh these cracks have already

6:25been there again the plastics have not aged well because this car was

6:32probably parked outside so we're just gonna remove one two and put it in an

6:43area you'll remember after you got that you just

6:44you'll remember after you got that you just have to pry it out remember ours is a

6:49little bit cracked so we're just gonna be kind of safe but you just pull it

6:53straight out you can use your prying tool which is like you got one right here

6:57You can kind of pry it right here.

6:59You want to just pop it open.

7:01in equal pressure all right so when you remove it there's a bunch of cables

7:17in the back let me just try you guys and with these cables try to unplug

7:23the hazard button the airbag light and all that so we've got the airbag light

7:28and the hazard next off have whatever this is this has a lot of stress on the

7:31Next off, we have whatever this is.

7:36This has a a L, a lot of stress in the,

7:37in the fire right now.

7:39So after you remove these top two,

7:41this is for, it

7:42looks like climate control yeah so that's

7:45climate control, we have the airbag and hazard, and then we have the radio stuff

7:51and we're good.

7:54One, two, and then this one, I don't know if you can see it.

8:12And then this one, I don't know if you can see it, but this one you have to use like a

8:18flathead screwdriver.

8:19Alright, so I'm going to use a flathead, it's a lot easier to just put it right here,

8:24and then you'll be able to pop it out.

8:26Now the whole unit comes out, and we did it.

8:30the big boy. We removed the radio but we still need to remove this upper display then this

8:37upper display the owner told me is just a clock which is interesting. But we have to remove

8:46it to make space for the android head unit so that's and we'll put that right here. specially this trim piece just comes you got the shroud right here and then we have four bolts which I'm going to remove now it looks like it could be 8 or 10 I'm just going to use.

9:04Four bolts, which I'm going to remove.

9:09Now, it looks like it could be the air tank.

9:12I'm just going to use power tools.

9:19It's nice that it's like an 8mm or it's a...

9:32Phillips on top be careful with your tools because you don't want to scratch

9:39that screen this bad boy should come out next is what I've been excited like

9:57pretty excited for is this bad boy right here now there's no instructions we are

10:02Now there's no instructions.

10:04We are the instructions.

10:05So we're, we're trying to do everything for you guys.

10:10Yo, that's cool, it clipped right in.

10:16I mean, me sitting here,

10:17it does not block any more view than I would normally see

10:21because right now my eyes can actually see,

10:23like the back of this and the,

10:26like the windshield wipers no problem.

10:28So it's not like this is actually blocking my winch.

10:30winch maybe if I was shorter no even if I was shorter yeah that's it so it doesn't

10:38like impeding your vision which is good all right so since we since we removed

10:43everything we put this the new head unit on as as a test fit and I'm gonna confirm

10:48that everything works and you're gonna have to use aux from here so it actually

10:52still retains your OEM radio but it has this new display and anything you

10:58want to change here like you want Apple CarPlay Bluetooth car link which is

11:03which is Android Auto or Apple CarPlay wireless.

11:08So we got wireless Apple CarPlay,

11:09no things plugged in to with his phone,

11:12but you just want an aux, it's handled through aux.

11:16And I'm gonna show you guys the wiring right now.

11:18All right, so let me talk to you every single plug

11:22that's coming from Honda into the new head unit, all right?

11:26So let's first start with that display in the top.

11:29We have a, the display on top was this thing right here.

11:34And basically, iDoing provides this harness.

11:37It's basically a Y adapter.

11:40What that means is it accepts the old one

11:43and it comes to out a new one and splits into more data.

11:47So let me show you what that means.

11:49So you got that right, right there.

11:52So you plug that new cable

11:54into the iDoing harness into this right here.

11:59And then it also terminates, as you can see,

12:05terminates into the the radio itself all right which is great next off so that's

12:15that's the whole why adapter part and it actually goes to this end to

12:18to but I'll explain that to you guys in a bit so remember that one with a

12:24little hook thing the iDoing harness which is all zip tied together so it's

12:29harness you want to plug it in so that's that's the new part right there and then

12:30you want to plug it in so that's the new part right there and then you want to

12:35plug that part into the original head unit because you're still using your

12:40original head unit for many functions like AM, FM because the radio is just

12:46being controlled by AUX. This is pretty much an AUX mod where you have kind of

12:50like imagine a tablet hooked up to AUX and that's in your new head unit okay

12:56That's what this head the head unit is, it's not fully integrated, it's handled through AUX.

13:03All right, so you got that wire right here and then we reduce all the pre

13:08Existing wires

13:11And you you want to have there's a a little y adapter

13:22little aux cable coming from the existing so you pretty much after that you plug

13:28it every single thing that you originally had into the head unit back into the head

13:48So let me just go of one more time in a nutshell.

13:53The head unit has access to this display.

13:57The head unit has access to AUX, which is this cable right here, and then it gets power through

14:06this unit right here, this harness.

14:09So just three things, this thing is hooked up to right now, and it allows the functionality

14:13to work.

14:17Yeah so feel free to ask any of these questions.

14:20Remember you see these two right here, these two plugs.

14:23two plugs. They go for the hazard light and the AC climate control so it's not

14:29used for the radio. So it's a different thing. And let me just kind of zoom in

14:31it's a it's a different thing and let me just kind of zoom in into the wiring so

14:38you guys can if it might help you if my explanation did not help there you

14:46see that one right there goes into the ox then I have an ox thing right

14:52here so those two walks and it's plugged into this connector right here let me see

14:59it and get better folks for you guys and that handles it getting if you guys

15:00folks for you guys and that handles it getting if you guys get no audio boom

15:06right there ox and this is mainly just the power wire beautiful beautiful ox and

15:16also remember if you're not getting audio make sure you put your original head

15:21unit into ox and turn the volume up like all the way and that way you can hear

15:27it. But there you go. I'm going to wrap this together and add more features like USBs and

15:40all that goodness but this is pretty much the bulk of your this is if you I

15:46didn't put in those USBs or GPS antennas and all that this is amazing this

15:51works and you this is pretty much the essentials alright so because we got

15:59everything working we have these trim piece this piece right here we're gonna

16:03try to fit it into this trim so this trim is gonna house this screen problem

16:10is with the coexisting bracket it's not gonna work so what you have to do is

16:15you have to remove four screws and this is a little crazy but you have to

16:20pop this thing out so use your fingers or a flat head you can pop this thing out

16:26they're just held by like clips boom we need to remove this thing out of its

16:33We need to remove this thing out of its existing housing right so my battery got exhausted

16:39So I'm going back into this after you remove the screws and then you do the clips right here

16:44You can just pull it out

16:46so

16:48You can use a flat or something like that and that reveals the screen now you the want to be careful

16:53Because it's like a you know like a calculator screen is nothing special, but you still want to be careful

16:58Now, we have to take this out and we have to put it into its new housing, move this plastic

17:05cover and this is like the more cleaner side so I'm actually gonna have that

17:10side be the one touching the screen so you want to put this thing in here so

17:16it doesn't fit perfectly just like enough all right and then we get the

17:27display and then you want to screw it in four screws right here and this

17:35here and this is how it's kind of kind of look like this this is all this is

17:47optional it's just we want to finish it and look better

17:52here is the units now it looks good and I didn't black out that with the electric

18:09tape so those look more, more cohesive right so we have this trim piece that's

18:14covering the display now iDoing does come with some screws that we can

18:18use. We have four screws. We're going to need to use this bag to be mounted on here.

18:24Similar with this back of this head unit right here. So there's this trim piece.

18:29You want to use just that trim piece over there and use the rest of those

18:33screws that came with the kit. And yeah, just screw it in and we're just going to

18:38wrap everything together put it back and it's going to look nice and clean.

18:42Alright. So we put the bottom piece in first. It's snuged in nice

18:47I still need we haven't screwed it in but it was a let me just say it was a process to get this in we first started with this bottom piece so I put the second piece in and then you put your third piece in so it went from 123 and up now there's gonna be a lot of wires you're gonna have to move those wires in the back but after you get it in let me show you the fitment good good good and we haven't even

19:03so it went from one two three and up now there's gonna be a lot of wires

19:07you're gonna have to move those wires in the back but after you get it in

19:10let me just show you the fitment good good good and we have even screwed it in

19:17yet it looking good okay so everything is working we have our usb's on the side

19:21we have wired usb's working we already tried wireless wireless so that works

19:26no problem let me try some some music we got some lihu you try this up there

19:31Let me turn this up.

19:36There you go.

19:37So we playing that music.

19:39We got the bottom,

19:39so the reason why you need to relocate

19:42that bottom screen is because you still need

19:43the volume to work.

19:44So.

19:47And and this I'll be pretty much as have it full black. We can just have it full blast

19:52So we can control it through the OEM konfusing max volume on this and had the volume be controlled B controlled by this and the reason why and I really think that this piece

20:03really think that this piece looks really good I'm glad we kind of blacked it

20:07out that way you don't see anything because it's actually a pretty integral

20:11part of the the experience and you still gonna do all this stuff right here

20:16change the base the fader all that stuff so it's good to have that screen down

20:22there also when you're doing the security and all that it's all tied to this so

20:28that's nice it's it if it were the course check your AC vents if you're

20:36working your hazards make sure all that's working but this is good and

20:40also like if you want it so if you don't want to use a head unit you get

20:43out of ox which right now it's still an ox you want to get to AM you still have

20:50AM FM and then of course ox is where it's getting the feed from this which we're

20:57using car link so yeah everything's working and this is a good step all right

21:05so this is just the regular menu if you guys were interested in this head

21:09unit honey it changed the date check in the link sound below I'll put a link

21:13on from Ali express and from eBay if I can find it but check out this unit I

21:18definitely this Honda cord it is involving but it's so worth it I mean look

21:22at everything works still, we have and you have all that functionality and

21:30it's on the bottom now and oh man just it looks it reminds me of MDX or like

21:38like the new Lexus double-tier have a little head unit on the top and I think

21:44it's a modern look that really elevates this but this is better than of course those

21:48new cars from Acura or a Lexus because it has carplay and Android auto and the

21:54displays faster and the processors much faster have for a 2008 car this

22:03thing is blowing out the water anyways thank you guys for watching catch you

22:06guys in the next one peace
