Honda Civic 2016–2021 Wireless CarPlay Head Unit: Full Dasaita Install with Side & Rear Cameras

Pop the 10th-gen Civic's dash trim by hand, pull the radio with two screws, plug in the Dasaita harness and keep both the LaneWatch side camera and the backup camera.

Yes — you can install Dasaita on the Dasaita Android head unit for the Honda Civic 2016–2021 (Amazon listing in the description lists 2016–2020) with a 15 min DIY job. Pop the 10th-gen Civic's dash trim by hand, pull the radio with two screws, plug in the Dasaita harness and keep both the LaneWatch side camera and the backup camera.

Overview

John installs a Dasaita Android head unit with built-in wireless CarPlay in his 2019 Civic. The side trim pieces next to the screen are held by tight clips, so pull them toward you; the radio-and-climate-control assembly is also only clipped in. Unplug the climate-control plugs (a gray and a white), remove two black screws at the bottom and the whole unit comes out. Rest it on the shifter to protect the leather trim. The factory harness has big clips you pinch with needle-nose pliers. On the new unit he plugs in the main Honda power harness, the wide connector, the FM/AM antenna and a USB; not everything gets used (the satellite-radio antenna, for example). A brown harness carries the backup camera ("camera in") and the side camera (labeled "aux video in" on his), and both work after a quick test. He transfers the three mounting clips on each side, mounts the mic low instead of on top of the dash, screws in the Wi-Fi antenna for better wireless CarPlay, then snakes everything back and plugs the climate control back in. The screen is bigger, punchier and a little more reflective than stock, follows the headlights for dark mode, and shows the camera when you signal.

Video chapters

Step by step

  1. 1

Pull the side trim pieces▶ 0:40

Use a plastic trim tool (or your fingers) and pull the trim next to the screen toward you. The clips are really tight, so work your way in carefully. Do the same on the other side.

  2. 2

    Pull the radio and climate-control assembly▶ 1:49

The head unit with the AC/climate controls is only clipped in, no screws. Pop it open from one side, then the other.

  3. 3

    Unplug the climate controls▶ 2:47

There are two plugs, a gray one and a white one.

  4. 4

    Remove two screws▶ 2:58

That reveals two black screws at the bottom. Keep them in the cup holder so you don't lose them. Then the radio comes out.

Tip: Rest the unit on the shifter so it doesn't scratch the leather trim.

  5. 5

    Unplug the factory radio▶ 4:07

The factory harness has really big clips. Pinch them with needle-nose pliers to free the connectors; you'll have a lot more room afterward.

  6. 6

Plug in the Dasaita harness▶ 5:03

Plug in the main Honda (Civic power) connector, the wide connector, the FM/AM radio antenna and the USB. Not everything will fit or be needed (like the satellite-radio antenna); just plug in what you see. John had four things plugged in for the first test.

  7. 7

    Test power▶ 6:20

Turn it on before going further. It powered right up.

  8. 8

Wire the backup and side cameras▶ 6:33

The brown harness handles the cameras. Match up the RCA leads: "camera in" for the backup camera, and the side camera on the one his unit labels "aux video in". Test it: both the rear camera and the LaneWatch side camera show up, with all the views.

  9. 9

    Check the wiring▶ 9:01

Everything from the main harness gets used except one antenna lead that doesn't match this car.

  10. 10

    Transfer the mounting clips▶ 10:16

Grab each clip on the old unit, pop it out and press it into the new one. Each side has three clips.

  11. 11

    Place the mic and Wi-Fi antenna▶ 11:27

John skipped sticking the mic on top of the dash because it looks ugly and mounted it lower instead. Screw in the Wi-Fi antenna; you definitely want it for wireless CarPlay range and signal.

  12. 12

    Reassemble▶ 12:08

There's a lot of room behind the Civic's dash. Snake everything back, plug the climate control back in and press the unit into place.

  13. 13

    Settings and features▶ 12:32

You can change the launcher and see car info and climate settings on screen. The camera comes on with the turn signal, and the screen switches to dark mode with the headlights.

Tip: The IPS screen is bigger and a bit more reflective than the factory one, but colors are punchier and more saturated.

0:00what's up guys it's your boy John and today we're taking a look at the

0:25and we're gonna be installing it this is the 10th gen civic and I have a very

0:32cool product right here this is the the Dasaita max 10 it's gonna be six so stay

0:39tuned for that alright the first thing you do when you're removing this head

0:45unit is there's these two trim pieces now you just need to be there on them

0:49really hard ohor use a trim tool now I have a little orange one and you can get

0:55it from this end over here and you want to just pull on it all right so I'm gonna so

1:02what I use is I use this orange trim and I got it at this corner right here and

1:07I just started working my way in being very careful and just want to pull to

1:12remove these trim pieces now this is a 2019 2019. Now this one is clipped like

1:16this so you're trying to pull it towards this this direction let me try to get a

1:21bit of angles up for you guys so you this there's a clip right here you want

1:25to pull it towards you it these clips are actually really tight and you can

1:32see that clip right here so you you see how long it is you want to pull it

1:36towards you now you do the same thing with this side right here pull it up

1:42Same here. That out. So after that you should be able to pull this head head unit

1:52right here. Not head unit, so the head unit is right here but the AC climb control.

1:56Should be able to hit that pretty easily. It's also the same. It's also just clipped in

2:06those screws. Pop that open. Try to pop it open this side. Again, this is just held

2:23by clips. So it is kind of sketchy because it's held by clips and you

2:26You don't want to snap anything, so just be careful, of course.

2:35I'm not trying to overpower the clips, I'm just trying to work with it.

2:45And behind this you're going to see some plugs, so just unplug the AC climb controls.

2:51There's going to be two, a gray one and a white one.

2:54Boom, so we got that out.

2:57And now it's going to reveal two screws on the bottom.

3:02And we're just going to unscrew that.

3:04Alright, so, you see these two black screws, you can use a Phillips, I'm going to use

3:10this.

3:11So it's faster.

3:12You don't want to lose these, so put them in your cup holder.

3:21Looking good.

3:22And with those two out, this thing kind of just comes out like a clips, pull the whole

3:38thing out.

3:39Now, something to keep in mind, if you want to protect your leather trim, so I want

3:42to get a microfiber towel, just put on the shift knob so you can rest the head unit

3:46on.

3:47So, factory shift knob is right there, pull it as much as you can and then

3:52and start unplugging. Now there's going to be a, the fitment's going to be pretty tight.

3:58So try to yank it as much as you can. But uh, oh there's another plug under here.

4:06You gotta get down. Just unplug everything from the back of the head unit. I'm telling

4:13you it is a tight fitment. Do your best. And I know you guys can't see me unplugging

4:19all of it, but see I'm just I'm trying to pull it back as much as I can. This is as much

4:29clearance I have, and then I'm just unplugging it. All right, so at the very bottom here

4:36there's just these really big clips. We're going to use a needle nose to pinch those

4:44clips so we get

4:51the wiring, harness out of there. So pinch, got one out.

5:00So now this is free, and oh wow, that's a lot more room.

5:03So you just need to get the left one.

5:07You can plug that bad boy in.

5:09All right, so I have one of the USBs fit to the gray one.

5:13Now everything's not gonna fit, and that's okay.

5:15Someorn the stuff you aren't gonna you're gonna use

5:18like the XM radio and tenon stuff like that.

5:22So just plug in everything you kind of see,

5:24and hopefully you get the majority of it.

5:27So I got that big one right there.

5:30This is like the main one right here, the Civic power, great, plug in shy one, plug in shy, FMA, FM/AM radio.

5:53Alright, so I didnt plug in many things, I plug in this white one, this one right here, this one, the main Honda one, so three, four things are plugged in

6:06and then I have this USB not plugged in right now and we're gonna go over that in

6:12a bit. So only four things plugged in and let's just test the power see if

6:22everything. So it does turn on. Alright, so to install the side and back of

6:35camera shouldn't be a problem. We just have to get these harnesses right

6:44here. And it will be labeled camera, front camera and all that. We plug that bad boy in.

6:54This is F camera, rear front, all that. And you have this one with a brown and you plug

7:04it in as well. And and then you match up the cameras. So, this one says camera VIN. Yellow

7:27RCA camera VIN and then Psyche.

7:30camera, side camera, well it doesn't say side camera on mine, it just says AUX

7:37video in, so we plug that one in and let's test it, you know what, and now we have the

8:31side cam, we have the rear camera and we have the side camera right there, so

8:46there's a side camera and rear camera, now it does have all the views, so that's

8:57my car back there and let's go back to drive all right so going over to the

9:06wiring we have the main harness coming out of this the black one which it

9:10controls rchx I actually haven't had spew anything plug into this one

9:14we have our USB which is our purple you can kind of see it and it goes to this

9:20black wire this brown one controls that side camera and rear camera and then

9:27coming from the back of this main harness this big one right here you have

9:31this wide one get your angle you have this wide one black one gray and a small

9:39antenna one for the FM AM radio those are the ones I, I have the I have

9:57which is a different intent that we're not

10:00So everything from this main harness is used besides this antenna because it

10:06doesn't fit our car and the rest is good. So I'm going to kind of kind of fish

10:15this back, fish it back, get it in its spot. Oh another thing you need to do is

10:22also transfer your clips over so the OEM one has these white clips so you need to transfer

10:31them over.

10:32Let me show you how you guys do that right now.

10:35To transfer it over you kind of grab it, pull, pop it out and then you pop it into your

10:42new one like this.

10:44Popping it.

10:47So you do that to all of them so this one has it too.

10:51Do it to all of them.

10:52Each side has three clips.

10:54So I'm going to do that and show you guys the end result.

10:59Alright, so all those clips were installed, there's 3 clips on that side, 3 clips on that

11:06side.

11:07So now that would really hunker the head unit down as far as far as these 2 last antennas.

11:12We have the GPS one.

11:15Now I usually use CarPlay or Android Auto, so I'm not going to that, but just have it on

11:21top of the head unit.

11:22It gets a good enough reception if you need to use it in a pinch.

11:42And then you have your Wi-Fi antenna.

11:48So this is pretty important.

11:53You definitely want this if you're going to do wireless Apple CarPlay.

12:05Now we just snake everything back.

12:07I kind of like how there's a lot of room in this Honda Civic.

12:11It's great.

12:12actually amazing, snake everything back, kind of slap that in place, boom, and then if you

12:23want to plug in your AC unit.

12:30Alright, so I have it done right here, it's great.

12:37You can change the launcher if you don't like this look, and here's all the information.

12:41What's really cool is there, there's control settings right here, control, you can adjust

12:46all this stuff right here which is all there's a lot of information you can do

12:56air conditioning system stuff it's a lot I think when you hit this climate

13:03button climate so it automatically goes to that spot you can up the speed

13:09right here so it's all good okay that's again let's go in reverse

13:18camera shows right there now throw it in turn the signal on turns the camera on

13:30right there yeah very cool I want to get the owner of the car and then we can get

13:35the connected phone to the car alright wrapping it up, right-here we had the

13:42Apple the Apple CarPlay head unit and Android Auto looking good Spotify all

13:47these applications applications and it's fully wireless or wired check out if if you

13:52you guys want to play games game snacks right there are some games that passed

13:55your time Android Auto little pro tip right there but yeah it looks sweet just

14:01look at that the screen is much bigger IPS panel it's it is a little bit more

14:06reflective than that matte screen but the car it does look more punchy and

14:09the colors are more saturated and it does respond to like dark mode and

14:15stuff like that so I'm gonna blur out my this part but you can kind of see

14:20triggering your headlights actually also works with that boom

14:22boom so that's that's all very cool right there if you guys were interested in

14:30this head unit yourself just please click on the link down below I'll

14:33put in the description and don't forget to smash that like button thank

14:36you guys for watching I'll catch you in the next one peace
