Civic Type R, Si & Touring Android Head Unit: Wireless CarPlay With Working Premium Audio (Dasaita + CANBUS Harness)

John fits a Dasaita Android head unit to a 10th-gen Civic Type R and finally gets sound on the upgraded-audio trims: the CANBUS harness for Si / Touring / Type R, a USB connector fix, and the LaneWatch camera setting.

Yes — you can install Dasaita on the 10th-gen Honda Civic 2016–2021 (John's CarPlay Finder page for this car: Civic 2016–2021) with a 14 min DIY job. John fits a Dasaita Android head unit to a 10th-gen Civic Type R and finally gets sound on the upgraded-audio trims: the CANBUS harness for Si / Touring / Type R, a USB.

Overview

Back in 2017 John tried an Android unit in this generation of Civic and got no sound on the cars with the upgraded audio. This time it works. He installs a Dasaita head unit in a Civic Type R: the climate panel pops up from one side with a trim tool, the factory unit comes out, and the new unit takes the factory connectors. The key is the harness: Si, Touring and Type R cars (with the amplifier) need the CANBUS harness labeled "CRV", while base Civics use the standard one. One USB connector (the screen's) had a small key that stopped it seating, so they trimmed it. Once wired, audio and the subwoofer work, climate info shows on screen, and the CAN settings expose things like headlight timers, TPMS and a tach display. He also changes the CANBUS setting so the right turn signal no longer throws the LaneWatch camera over CarPlay.

Video chapters

Step by step

  1. 1

Pop up the climate panel▶ 3:17

The AC panel protrudes a little. Get your trim tool under one side and pop it up, working carefully so nothing breaks.

  2. 2

    Screws you can leave▶ 3:43

There are a couple of small screws you don't need to remove to get the unit out.

  3. 3

    Unplug the factory unit▶ 4:33

Unplug the factory connectors, including what's likely the XM radio antenna, which you won't use any more. Everything else plugs into the new unit's harness.

  4. 4

    Pick the right harness▶ 5:26

Use the tags on the harnesses. If you have an Si or Touring with the amplifier (or a Type R), use the one labeled "CRV". A base Civic uses the standard harness.

Warning: With the wrong harness on an upgraded-audio car you get no sound, which is what happened to John back in 2017.

  5. 5

    Backup camera lead▶ 6:09

The backup camera connection is the yellow plug labeled camera.

  6. 6

USBs and the connector fix▶ 6:48

There's a USB down low and one with a white cable for the screen. The screen connector wouldn't seat because of a small key on the plug, so they trimmed that key off; it works perfectly fine afterwards.

  7. 7

Audio lines and CAN buses▶ 7:48

Anything circular was left unplugged. On the Type R (with Bose) and the Civic Touring, the audio goes through the CRV connector, which has two CAN bus leads. With it connected the subwoofer gets power.

  8. 8

    Car settings on screen▶ 9:33

Air conditioning shows on screen, and the CAN settings offer headlight timers, TPMS and other customizations, plus a tach display that John thinks works like shift lights.

  9. 9

    Stop LaneWatch taking over▶ 10:18

Go to car settings, then factory settings, and change the CANBUS setting so using the right turn signal no longer switches the screen to the side camera.

Tip: The camera inputs override everything else, including when you shift into reverse while the unit is still booting.

  10. 10

    Reassemble and check▶ 12:28

Put the trim back. Door status and AC changes show on screen, the reverse camera works, and the turn signal no longer brings up the side camera.

0:10it. It does have that all that, stuffs right there. Good. Turn signal, it was quick.. So we, we set'a set the CAN bus so. So when you hit the turn signal, it no longer shows that side camera. I showed you

0:21the settings for that. What's, guys, it it's your boy John. We're here with a new head unit

0:27this is here with a new head unit. This is a Dasaita and we have, we had the type R in this is a

1:03new head unit and then the unit itself. So or. So hopefully. Hopefully

1:44more video options or audio through this port

2:44and we'll

3:17out. This is the first the next thing to take the AC out you see how it protrudes out a little

3:25bit right here.

3:27You want to get your tool. You just pop it up on this side.

3:31Then you can do see if I can do just one hand try not to break

3:43Alright so even though there's these two screws and then the these ones you don't need to remove these

3:49small

4:01the the new Dasaita head unit right here into this piece all these wires

4:33and possibly a XM radio antenna the antenna which we are no longer going to have now plug everything we have here

4:45into that and then I'll go over the rest alright just to go through harnesses that this

4:56are 16 I guess as a 17-22 then this one is also it's labeled this one says

5:26one the the one thing that I can tell you to use those tags and then you have a little wire here so if you

5:34you have a Honda Civic SI or the touring with the amplifier you definitely want this one that says

5:40CRV and then if you just have the normal like base civic you want this bad boy right here

6:01the back of

6:09the backup cameras and so forth the backup camera is you'll see it should say camera then we're camera

6:18something like that it's a yellow plug so there's the video camera then there you go

6:26so that's of.

6:30speckler the base civic one over there and we will install it inside and see if it's going to fit

6:48right here are going to be the USBs so you have a USB down here we can see the white charging cable comes

6:57and there's one down here now the white the one the one with the white cable right now is the screen one

7:02we had to make some modifications some as actually you can say it's a little major we had to trim this

7:09this portion because it would not fit in the connector I don't I don't know why it's like that but we

7:15the head unit came if you're it will come with it you can you can see

7:21this one has been modified if I can zoom in and this one doesn't the notching on this one kind of

7:28you can kind of see there's a little key right there so it's straight and right there looks like a

7:32little key blade coming out that will prevent this from pushing in so I cut out but it's perfectly fine

7:38and iPhone 13 or 14 pro so that's good we plugged in pretty much every cable here

7:48so anything that's circular we didn't plug in so I'm just going to go through on these this is

7:53like the audio lines you definitely want this this one's the with the type R with the bows on

7:59and civic in the touring models it you want to have the CRV connector right here

8:05a good way, you have the CRV connector is there are two can buses right here so you have a big

8:29two, right here we're now powering that subwoofer we

9:29spew

9:33air conditioning does work to so we can see that, on the screen control settings we we're actually messing with this it actually

9:39does work so if you're doing headlight timers and there's a lot of customizations you can do TPMS

9:45a lot of custom

9:52sundry, sundry, ss, ms per O hour we're doing we're getting what the tag display earlier and we'llwiek

10:00And I don't know,, but it will it will change your tack right there I think that this is like shift lights or something like that

10:05that's pretty crazy so it's all it's all their remote start of course this car doesn't have it or maybe it can now

10:13but it's all there for you and just going through the settings

10:18Yeah, let me just show you can bus settings real quick too, so we were messing with this

10:25a lot go to car settings go to factory settings. So if your car if

10:50so to fix that we have to make it so it doesn't do that so

11:20the main take

11:21the main takeaway is.

11:22The main takeaway is those two all

11:26the that the camera then the can bus settings for that right camera when you use the right signal.

11:37two USBs the green one is the one right here that has to be modified.

11:50that no more. We throw in reverse usually those two these two signals are here these the camera ones

11:55they overwrite everything so if you're watching if your you of gf.

11:58if your car is booting up or whatever you throw in reverse it will just.

12:01it will just slam into this thing same

12:28into the new one and to popi

12:35we're just going to wrap out.

12:36So we are done with the civic type are this.

13:13also work a

13:32rear the rear door all that stuff will open you change the ACs will show all that all information there.

13:39can you.

13:40and reverse camera it does have that all that stuff right there, too,

13:46to all these things good turn signal quick so.

13:50So we set the CAN bus so

13:52when you turn signal a no longer

13:54no longer shows

13:56that but yeah if it you're really interested in this product
