Overview

John test-fits iDoing's 10.25-inch universal head unit. Its party trick is the remote setup: the screen and the main box (the brains) are separate and joined by a really long cable, so you can mount the screen on the dash, use it in a boat, or retrofit it over a gauge cluster. Removal depends on your car; in this one there are four screws (10mm or, here, Phillips) holding the old radio. Keep the screws and brackets in case you reuse them, and be careful unplugging. The main box lets you configure the plugs, and with the OEM-style harness there isn't much clearance but it fits. On a Toyota the main connectors are the 10-pin and 6-pin, plus the 28-pin for steering-wheel controls. You don't have to wire everything at first: connect main power to test. The first boot takes the longest. The unit has GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, with home and back buttons in the UI. Without physical knobs, volume is done through steering-wheel controls (set them up in key study) or in settings. He shows the sleep timer, voltage display, factory settings (the code is usually something like 126; check the manual or ask iDoing) to change the boot logo, and the specs: 1280×480 ultrawide, Android 10, PX5 octa-core at 1.5GHz and 4GB RAM. It's snappy, and he suggests the RealDash app with OBD2 to turn it into a digital cluster.

Video chapters

Step by step

  1. 1

    Remove the old radio▶ 0:30

This one is held by four screws (10mm on some cars, Phillips here). Removal differs by car, so follow your own car's process.

Tip: Keep the screws and brackets somewhere safe; you might reuse them.

  2. 2

    Unplug carefully▶ 1:06

Be careful pulling the radio and unplug every connector.

  3. 3

    Meet the remote unit▶ 1:22

The screen and the main box are separate with a really long cable, so the screen can go on the dash, in a boat, or almost anywhere.

  4. 4

    Configure the plugs▶ 1:51

The main box lets you configure the plugs for your setup.

  5. 5

    Plug in the harness▶ 2:21

Plug the harness into the main unit and the car. With the OEM-style harness there isn't much clearance, but it fits. On a Toyota the main plugs are the 10-pin and 6-pin, plus the 28-pin for steering-wheel controls.

  6. 6

    Test before mounting▶ 2:57

You don't have to wire everything yet. Connect the main power so you can test. This is a test fit; transfer the mounts once you know it works.

  7. 7

    First boot▶ 4:12

The first boot always takes the longest. Then you get GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, wired and wireless CarPlay and wired Android Auto, with home and back buttons on screen.

  8. 8

    Mounting ideas▶ 5:34

If your car has a cover over the cluster, you could mount the screen there and use the RealDash app with OBD2 to make the head unit your cluster.

  9. 9

    Volume and key study▶ 7:47

There's no volume knob, so use steering-wheel controls (set up in key study) or adjust it in settings.

  10. 10

    Extra settings▶ 8:50

Set when it sleeps (for example 30 seconds) and show the battery voltage.

  11. 11

Factory settings and boot logo▶ 9:10

Factory settings need a code (often something like 126; check the manual or contact iDoing). That's where you change the boot logo to Nissan, Toyota, Lamborghini or your own.

  12. 12

    Specs▶ 9:42

    1280×480 ultrawide display, Android 10, PX5 octa-core at 1.5GHz and 4GB RAM. It's snappy and responsive.

0:12Today, we're gonna be installing the iDoing head unit. This one's the remote mount and I'm just gonna give you a general

0:18Installation video on it first you have to remove your existing head unit now with most cars

0:23It's just gonna be a trim piece. You have to remove

0:25So in this case, case this is just held a lot by clips and then you were 10 millimeters here or

0:33In this case Phillips, so we're just gonna remove these there's four of them, and

0:38You got one right here and you got one right

0:40here and right here and different cars have different

0:45kind of uns in a like

0:47Removal process, just pay attention to your own car

0:51but this is a universal kind of setup, so I'm gonna show you guys

0:56How it's how it is in this car, you know place these screws somewhere safe so you can reuse them

1:00somewhere safe so you can reuse them. Be very careful when you're removing this and

1:06remove the plugs. So once you remove that you still have the brackets you might want to

1:15have to reuse these but we'll have to see. Now I'll get the new unit. Now dissuade

1:22unboxing on this unit so if you guys

1:24you guys want to check that out you can

1:25but here is the unit itself and you can

1:34But in this case it would be mounted up like this or

1:38Anywhere it's a remote. It's a really long wire

1:41So you can even put it like right here. Isn't that crazy?

1:44And we have the head unit the brains of the operation

1:48right here too

1:50What's really cool, cool is you. Can spe

1:53Configure your plugs here. So if I do wire anything. I got the specific Toyota one

1:59This is a super the Subaru or BRZ

2:00But it's also to it a ichi and frs and all that so it a uses to the Toyota plugs, and

2:06I'll show you that it's almost it's basically because it uses o

2:10OEM harnesses it's going to be very plug and play and play there is a bunch of the OEM plugs right here

2:15here. Ignore some of the other plugs I have, these are just aftermarket plugs. But in your case, it would be, you would get the head unit, of course. And then you'll plug in the 10 pin and just plug everything in that matches. Now because you're using the OEM harness, there's not going to be a lot of clearance because it's like thinking it's the OEM. But look, it just fits perfectly. So yeah. So just plug in as the many plugs that you think will Fit.

2:34the OEM, but look it just fits perfectly.

2:38So yeah, so just plug in as many-plugs

2:41that you think tota think will fit.

2:44For Toyota, the main ones are the 10-pin and then the six

2:466-pin.. The it's the 28-pin.

2:48- usually you control steering wheel, control wheel, control wheels.

2:50Very simple so far.

2:54Then we, we can plug in these additional,

2:55these additional wires right here.

2:56And the main power connection.

2:57You don't have to wire everything,

2:59but I like to get the 10-pin or six-pin.

3:00Just the main power so. so we, so we can test everything.

3:03Now this is not mounted or anything.

3:05You can transfer to those mounts,

3:06but again, this is a test fit.

3:08We want to make make sure everything at least works.

3:10You can even put this in.

3:12, you can get a rough estimate on how the

3:15fit.

3:33IVE cable. So it's really brings back the old PC days. All right, here you go. And.

3:42And you can mount this anywhere you want. I'm just going to mount it right here. And we're going to start the car up. So it does boot up because we do get where that means we're getting power, we're

3:55getting all this goodness. So it's looking good so far. Android 10. It does have, it does say Nissan, but you can adjust that later in the factory settings.

4:03that later in the factory settings what do you think that how looks looks

4:12Super wide, which is nice with the first initial boot, it's always

4:18always going to take the longest, and there you go.

4:23here's the iDoing radio, now great things about this, it does have GPS, it has

4:28Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay wireless and wired, it has

4:32wired. It has Android Auto wired. And you know, you can look up your steering wheel controls, you

4:39controls. You don't have to have to buy any additional $100 accessory or anything. It's all there for you. You just got the wheel case.

4:46Now this car does not have any the steering wheel controls, so we can't test that. There's no buttons on this

4:53is very, it's a pro for some because people like that clean look. Others might say to have a home button

5:01or back button. But it is right the UI so

5:18re you have the display wire right here, then it's going to block these mounting spots. Alright, so I basically fish this ID.

5:25cable over so then fish it up once you get your cable right like this. Now you have clearance for this. Whether this is how we're

5:37mounted. We can either depending on your car. Let's say your car is like a car that has

5:43a cover so you don't need to see this and you can just close it and mount it remotely, whether it's like right

5:48here, your cluster. Now the cluster would be a good idea because there because there's an app called Real Dash. Check out this

5:55Real Dash and you can actually make your Android head unit your cluster. Now

6:00what you can use OBD2 or stuff like that. Let you just post a video on how you can make it. You get creative with it basically.

6:07You can mount this anywhere which is really nice. Now in this car, this wouldn't be a it a good spot, because it just blocks too much.

6:18But you can just screw it onto these little holes right here and you can just use self, it includes

6:30depending on how if you don't want things to be permanent. But yeah,

6:32But yeah, I'm going to I'm going to mount it right now and then show you guys how the finish looks would be.

6:39So

7:00And hopefully we'll get Android Auto and it says connected. We

7:23But it doesn't show the whole display. Now I had a Apple CarPlay and when I did Apple CarPlay, the resolution expanded through the whole aspect ratio.

7:34So that's nice. You get stuff like Spotify and all that sound sounds really good. Now with a unit like this, I just want to mention that you don't have any,

7:53So that's how it is. It just got that clean look. So, so that's something you got to

7:59Think about key study. You can do all your steering controls again, like what we mentioned earlier to get all

8:00how it is

8:10anyhow. It any you-'ed. So that's something you gotta think about. Key, study, you can do all your steering wheel controls again like what we mentioned earlier to get to get all that volume control setup.

8:10but yeah it's been super fast and look how responsive it is let's go dig into the

8:17We have network connected display.

8:20You can hook it through Bluetooth,

8:22all that goodness here.

8:24Here are some of the car settings

8:26like

8:32It does react to when you turn on your headlights because it does have that dimmer,

8:37But there's no little keys or, or anything. Now, let's go to net driving settings.

8:43If you want to watch YouTube or Netflix while driving, you need to enable this.

8:47If not, leave it disabled. Extra settings. This the settings are all like to say power..

8:54When you turn off your car. Do you want to sleep or so forth. You had 30 seconds or five minutes playing music.

9:02You know, you can read these settings in here. Battery voltage is kind of important if you watch movies and stuff like that.

9:09Factory settings., boom. I don't know the code usually, it's like one to six. So you'd have to look at the manual or contact them to

9:23to see extra factory settings. But that's the way you can adjust your, your logo.

9:31your boot logo into this thing.

9:33Nissan, you can say Toyota, Lamborghini or your own logo.

9:37It's super customizable.

9:39Now I want to look at the specifications.

9:42Machine this is rocking a 1280 by 480. So it's a 480 display, but it's ultra-wide

9:50So you do get more pixels

9:52vertically

9:53I mean horizontally

9:56Look, I will just on the you know, I mean

9:59Andrew 10 says we're in the latest patch

10:01in Android version with

10:04May 5th, 2020 patch

10:06Google play systems right there, and then you have the rock chip build number

10:11kernel MCU and this is using an octa core at 1.5 again the PX 5 memory is 4

10:20gigs RAM which is plenty it's very snappy and you know things get stored perfectly

10:26fine with. With this I mean you go to the back and you back to Z-Link things are ready right

10:29there for you you have entered it's just super snappy it's quick it's

10:35responsive I mean what else do you need and again if you guys were going

10:40to use the real dash now I have it installed

10:43the real dash. Now, I don't have it installed here but I, I'll,, show you a video again

10:46, you can literally put this, screen retrofit it into to your cluster, and it will look insane, so if you

10:57had something like this, it looks like a Tesla, anyways, if you guys were interested in buying

11:03this product hit the description below and don't forget to mash that like button it means a lot

11:10for you as a support this channel and you know just check out iDoing in general there they have a

11:15lot of cool products and their customer service is top notch see you guys
