Yes — you can install This kit on the Universal double-DIN with a rotating, height-adjustable 10" screen with a 15 min DIY job. A full tour of the rotating 10" universal head unit in a Subaru BRZ: the pivot/height mount, built-in DSP, every preinstalled app, ZLink CarPlay/Android Auto, TPMS, and the car settings worth changing.
Overview
This is the software and settings follow-up for the rotating 10" universal unit. The mount is the highlight: the screen pivots, rotates and adjusts in height, and the mounting system is solid enough to make the unit truly universal. Out of the box the theme is blue, while the BRZ interior is more reddish, so John points out you can change the button lighting color and swap launchers. The home screen has navigation, music and radio widgets. Apps include Bluetooth calls and music, a USB/SD player (a microSD card comes in the box), video, built-in GPS with its own antenna, a file browser, DVR, front-camera and reverse-camera views with guide lines, Google Play, YouTube, a TV tuner app (with an add-on tuner), TPMS (with external sensors) and ZLink. ZLink handles wired Android Auto and CarPlay, and updates were rolling out when he filmed. The built-in DSP makes the biggest difference to sound: units without it sound muddier. You can set delay, fader and speaker distances. In Settings, he keeps the shutdown delay on auto. He also covers battery voltage, choosing a Subaru boot logo, and switching the radio region from Europe to America. CAN bus options are only needed if your car sends data such as AC info. Overall he likes the audio and the adjustable mount. The one thing he'd change is the silver trim piece, which looks a little cheap.

- Rotating 10" universal head unit
- Optional: TV tuner, external TPMS sensors, front camera, DVR
Step by step
- 1
The mount▶ 0:00
The 10" screen pivots, rotates and adjusts in height. The mounting system is solid enough to make it truly universal.
- 2
Change the look▶ 0:55
The default theme is blue, but the BRZ interior is more reddish. You can change the theme or use a launcher such as Car Launcher.
- 3
Home screen and media▶ 1:07
Widgets for navigation, music and radio. Bluetooth calls and music, a USB/external-drive player, and a microSD slot (a card is included with Max6 units).
- 4
Built-in DSP▶ 2:00
Sound quality is strong thanks to the built-in DSP. Units without one sound muddier. You can set delay, fader and speaker distances.
- 5
Video and navigation▶ 2:46
Video playback is handy for passengers on road trips. Navigation uses the unit's own GPS antenna, so it doesn't rely on the phone.
- 6
File browser, DVR and cameras▶ 3:45
Browse USB or SD files (for example, photos on the big screen). There's a DVR app, a front-camera view, and a reverse-camera view with optional guide lines.
- 7
Play Store, steering keys, YouTube, TV▶ 5:03
Google Play is included. The steering-wheel key-learning screen supports cars with wheel buttons (the BRZ shown has none). The TV app needs an add-on tuner.
- 8
TPMS and ZLink▶ 5:48
The TPMS app uses external sensors and showed the front-left tire as low. ZLink runs Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It was connected over USB here, and updates were rolling out.
- 9
Settings: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth▶ 6:55
Standard Android Wi-Fi (even VPNs) and Bluetooth. Turn off the key tone if it annoys you.
- 10
Button lighting▶ 7:41
You can change the color of the button lights. They come on with the headlights.
- 11
Driving and power options▶ 8:29
Choose whether video is allowed while driving. John keeps the shutdown delay after accessory-off on auto. Battery voltage can be shown.
- 12
Boot logo and radio region▶ 9:29
Pick a boot logo by make (he chose Subaru). Switch the radio region from Europe to America for US stations.
- 13
CAN bus▶ 10:06
Only needed if your car sends data such as AC info to the radio. Pick your manufacturer there. He left it alone in the BRZ.
- 14
Reboot and verdict▶ 10:52
Exit and let it reboot to apply changes. Great audio and a great mount. His only complaint is the silver trim piece, which looks a little cheap.

0:00What's up guys, it's, it's your boy John. We're back again with another tape video.
0:03We're taking a look at the side of the head unit. This is the10 inch universal with pivot and you
0:10can rotate it like that and adjust the height because there's a little mounting system in the
0:17back. What's great about this is that it helps with fitment. Depending on what car you have
0:22it has a really nice, I mean you can even flip it like this. It has a really trick system where the mounting
0:29is just, it's saying it's just, it's powerful making it universal all the way around. Now
0:35something I want
0:38to talk about is just the overall interface. Let me just have it tilted towards you so you
0:40guys can see a we can see a little better. But we can see is we have the widgets and this
0:45looks really nice. Then to, uh, is, is it's blue. So that's not very, you can
0:51change this of course to different launchers., uh, check out this video of, you know, my friend
0:55with the BMW with this same interface and he changed it using car launcher. Well, right
0:59on the box it's blue and that, that's, you know, that's what it is, what it is. The
1:05interior of the BRZ is more reddish. So we have widgets navigation, the, the, the widget
1:10for music, radio and stuff like that. And then you even have, uh, again, Bluetooth,
1:15Bluetooth, uh, ape, uh, the applications so you can have phone calls and stuff
1:19like that. We're just going to go through all the apps today. Phone calls. This is for
1:24Bluetooth music. So you can store your own in inside music. This is how the player looks
1:29like that right now. I don't have anything through USB, but you can have music plugged
1:33in through USB, external hard drive or anything like that. There's even a micro SD card. So
1:37when I don't know if you saw when I flip here, the, the max is the max six had units
1:42come with a micro SD card included for you guys. So you guys can have that
1:46goodness right there. So cool. I meancaust have another mic, a micro SD card. Here's
1:53an interface and stuff like that. So oh, there's some music right there. The sound
2:00quality is really good. Do you agree? Yeah, we were playing music earlier and it does
2:05slap and that's all thanks to that built in DSP. So you had units that don't
2:10have built-in DSP, the sound quality is a little bit more muddy. You know,
2:13it's not that it doesn't have that punch with the DSP is built in, which
2:17let me just show you the EQ. You get a lot of functionality. You get like custom
2:21this, this, and LUT, fat, cut, base, sub, common specialty. So commons like what you
2:29have in a normal car, you can increase delay, fader, time, space, and all that
2:34stuff. So you can calculate distance. It gets pretty extensive and this is
2:39more like a casual review. So I'm not gonna, I'm not an extreme car
2:44audiophile and anything like that. Video, if you have, this comes in handy. If you
2:49have like,
2:50you know, you want to watch videos while you're driving, especially if you have
2:52kids in the back or your passengers and you're driving a long road trip. It's
2:56nice to have some Disney movies or, you know, studio Ghibli movies playing. Now
3:01I don't use that built-in video app. I usually use VLC. there's just a go-2. We
3:05have calendar, radio. Let's look at the radio right now. So this is how the
3:10radio, radio looks like. It's, it's blue again. So depending on what you like.
3:17Alright, sorry about that. Anyways, it is not HD radio. It's just normal radio. You
3:23could buy an adapter if you live in Europe for that DAB radio, but in
3:27United States, you're pretty much stuck with this with a regular radio. Settings
3:31will go through that later. Navigation, it does come with built-in
3:34navigation. This uses its own GPS, so it doesn't use Wi-Fi or anything. AVN is
3:39if you have like a PS-2 or 3, it uses that composite video out. Very cool. Chrome, no
3:45need. File browser is a file, system where you can, you know, go to the directory
3:50have certain things installed. This means that if you plug in USB, you can
3:53see the files installed, too. Or, you know, maybe I'm at a wedding or something
3:57like thate and I want to see the, you know, the pictures on the more bigger
4:00screen than my phone. Drop the SD card in there. No problem. DAB, remember
4:04, that was the radio. We don't have that, we don't
4:10have the European radios. Gallery, just photos. DVR is if you want to have your phone,
4:16or not your phone, but like an accessory to install it calculator. This is how the
4:22calculator looks like. It's the standard Android one. APK install is more like the
4:28file system system, but it's just kind of tailored towards having things
4:30installs with the file system but it just kind of
4:32tailored towards having things installed so this is
4:35what's installed right now and you could have
4:38Phase Beams, Auto Play, Dieb, Music Visual Player, Amplifier right there, we just saw that.
4:47Gmail clock, let me show you how the clock looks like. It's like the Android clock. Front camera,
4:53we don't have any things hooked up to the yellow things besides the reverse cam,
4:57and this is how the reverse cam looks like again. And you can add those lines if you want.
5:03so we have that maps Google this is a Google Play Store so it's good to have a
5:10Google Play Store it's actually awesome key wheel studies on- if you look at the
5:16right here we don't have any steering wheel controls on this car but if you had like a
5:22Toyota Mazda or something like that you can have it pretty much hot keyed right
5:26here so when you press a button it would show what kind of hot-keys you want
5:30for that car. Awesome, now we have
5:33YouTube, no need to explain, you're watching this video on
5:37a YouTube, you know, application TV, TV, TV is cool if you have a TV the TV
5:45tuner, I tried it, check out, if you are interested, check out the the link below and I'll show you the a little video of me TV tuner TV.
5:48TMS is cool too, and this is an accessory piece..
5:51So you can individually, it's using the external, and external TMS sensor, it's just
5:59as the front left is low. That's kind of awesome. Z-Link is going to be Android Auto or Apple
6:07CarPlay. So right now, we have Z-Link took up-to my phone through USB, so it is wired and
6:14connected. And of course you can play music. Now this is the old Android Auto. They're
6:19going to revamp this. They're actually pushing updates as we speak right now. So like
6:23, updates came out like a few days ago, and it's just starting to
6:26Slowly so yeah, so you get that awesome Android Auto if you guys don't know my Android Auto you you guys should know about it
6:33But now
6:34Lastly we have that which is the also another GPS thing you can use that's
6:39The offline one so you don't need to use internet
6:44So that's all the applications that's pretty much installed again the
6:50You have right here. You have little brightness Google assistant right here
6:55Settings so let's go to the settings because because that's kind of like the you know the meat and potatoes of things
7:01.. Wi-Fi I mean if you feel right at home if you know what all this stuff is right here
7:05You can even do VPNs and stuff like that connected Bluetooth device. We have hooked up currently the
7:12the S10, so we have S10 Bluetooth right now the S10 is great, most of the stuff you don't really
7:19have to worry about that tone, if you don't like that tone noise, let's just turn it off
7:23because that does get kind of annoying but it's good for audio feedback, we've got settings,
7:36The display, sound, account, car, car is the go-to for things.
7:41First off, elements.
7:44Notice how, how you can change these little lights right here, which is nice.
7:47It's cool how you, I don't even have the dimmer switch on, it just turned on.
7:52Very cool.
7:53So, look at that.
7:54, now you have the red buttons right here.
7:55It's off, but when you turn on your headlights you see how it turns on.
7:58So, that's cool.
7:59We definitely want to overhaul that everything seems like more built into your car.
8:04So let's go ahead and turn on the amplifier. That's just your
8:06your EQ navigation, stereo control control. We already talked about navigation. So if you have navigation going, you can have basically have different sounds going through the front of the speakers, driving settings, driving settings is cool because if you don't have to watch YouTube while you're driving, do you want to have YouTube while you're driving? That's up to you.
8:30Extra settings. Shut down delay when ACC accessories off. So I usually keep this on auto. It does drain the batteries a little bit more but you get that instant boot which is like a 1-second boot versus a 10-second boot.
8:46And the rear view ruler. So let's turn that on. Does it show the little ruler now? Okay
9:18and this is gonna a little bit more advanced. So you have all all this stuff right here. You can chip when you when you boot up you can choose different logos, Audi, BMW, BMW, Bentley, Mercedes, Cadillac. This is gonna be a Subaru. So we're gonna choose a Subaru. I'm gonna scroll slowly so if you see something you like you can put on your own.
9:31Bently, you know Mercedes Cad-Lac. This is gonna be of Subaru, so we gonna choose a Subaru. I'm gonna scroll
9:36That kind slowly so if you see something you
9:37like you can put it on your own
9:41Subaru
9:45There it is. Oh, that's not Subaru. Let's carry. What the heck?
9:51Alright apply
9:53You, you can even use a custom one so of radio right now it the radio is put to Europe so let's
9:59us put that into America, you have the voice and stuff like that so you can independently
10:06independently choose your audio for that, CAN bus this is pretty much if you have AC
10:11or you have y have like data coming into your system you can select manufacturers
10:16and stuff like that, we don't have that so we're not going to mess with that,
10:22So this is... so I think you can edit these little buttons right here or we're not gonna really mess with that.
10:27And the other stuff like here...
10:30You can mess with app install, LED, even stuff like brightness. Oops, it was one right.
10:38Boot default volume. We're not gonna have a default volume or anything like that amp volume. You can turn that turn it a little bit down or stuff like that.
10:48Car play. Yes. Three way calling. Yes. And we're gonna exit and then it's gonna reboot if you're gonna make all these changes. So yeah, let's reboot.
10:57So overall this head unit. I mean, I know head units are really big when it comes
11:05When it comes to audio quality and it does have that. That audio quality.. I. I really, really like the adjustment right here.
11:13The finish on this one. Do you this looks better than like the other ones you had for the universe?
11:18At least.
11:39I think so. But I kind of I don't prefer the trim right here.
11:44Right. But I mean it seems a little cheap looking to me to be all this silver trim piece. Yeah. It's not the most like the join.
11:55One had like a metal polish finish. The silver finish is not the best finish. I'm gonna have to agree with you.
12:19The package overall very very cohesive if it was a little bit thinner I'm gonna have to
12:24agree and. It would look better and the reason one straight to this because I have it
12:28plugged in so be here whether it's Apple CarPlay or Android Auto this the
12:39I do wish there was a home button or home a home feature. Yeah. So I don't
12:46I don't know why they removed this, but they added a multitasking button instead of a home button. So that's definitely. So let me get out of here.
12:56And let me just press this button. See how it's just a multi. I mean, there is a little home button right here and stuff like that.
13:03And like a, dimmer switch right here. Multi task button here. But I mean, I just like the home button and they removed it in this iteration.
13:11So it's something to know. It's not a deal breaker, but it's just kind of like. Let's get the brain is up.
13:19Anyways, if you guys were looking to buy this head unit checks in the links down below because it is awesome. I really like it.
13:26I think this is a game changer because when it comes down to it's pretty much the fitment and having a universal fit anything like this.
13:34I mean, look, it's just tilted to me. It's beautiful tilted to her tilted to the ground. You can adjust it. You can do this.
13:39That is such a big. That's a game changer. So a little minor, minor things like the silver thing or the home button.
13:46That is unlike, you know, it's like a preference thing that I don't prefer.
13:52But if you like the way it looks and then like the home button, but I'm telling you the mounting.
13:57The mounting system, it's a game changer. And if you're looking for something like this, check the links down below again. Ça. It's an awesome product.
14:06And, you know, you can buy it off of Amazon and they have like an Amazon return policies. If you end up do not liking it.
14:13Hey, guys, thank you guys for watching. I hope you guys like this video and don't forget to mash that like button.
14:20It helps me with that YouTube algorithm. It helps me make that that good or entered content because it's hot out here.
14:28Thank you guys for watching. See you guys in the next one.
