A quick universal double-DIN swap: change the harness and brackets, test audio first, wire the reverse camera, tuck the accessory leads, then set the height and angle of the rotating screen. This 10 min guide covers the Universal double-DIN head unit with a rotating, height-adjustable 10" screen with tools, parts links and the full video.
Overview
John calls this a "fast fast install," because universal double-DIN units mostly come down to swapping the harness and brackets. The slowest part is usually the reverse camera. Pull the old harness and brackets, fit the new ones, and test audio before closing anything up. On the head-unit side, the reverse camera needs its video lead plus the brown reverse-trigger wire. The back of the unit has a lot of extras: USBs, TPMS, GPS, a Wi-Fi antenna, the backup camera input, the full audio harness (audio channels, dimmer and switches), HDMI and an extra 28-pin plug. Tie the leads together and tuck them neatly before sliding the unit in on its guide holes. The rotating mount is the star. You can run the screen low, raise it, or angle it slightly toward the passenger, and it stays solid. In this car the highest position blocked the vents, so pick a height that suits your dash. Even from a cold boot, the reverse camera came up quickly. The car shown has no steering-wheel controls, but the unit has a key-learning screen for cars that do.

Step by step
- 1
Plan for the reverse camera▶ 0:15
Most of the install is quick. The reverse camera is usually the slowest, most annoying part.
- 2
Swap the harness and brackets▶ 0:35
Remove the old harness and brackets, then fit the new harness and brackets.
- 3
Plug in and test audio first▶ 1:14
Connect the harness and test audio before reassembling. Make sure the phone connects.
- 4
Wire the reverse camera▶ 2:34
No video at first means the camera isn't connected yet. On the head-unit side, connect the camera video lead and the brown reverse-trigger wire.
- 5
Connect the accessories▶ 3:17
Twist-tie the leads: USBs, TPMS, GPS, the Wi-Fi antenna (place it somewhere out of the way) and the backup camera. The full harness carries the audio channels and the dimmer and switch wires.
- 6
Leave the extras tucked▶ 3:49
There's HDMI and an extra 28-pin plug. If you're not using them, tuck them in neatly.
- 7
Slide it in on the guide holes▶ 4:29
Line up the guide holes, push the unit in and screw it down.
- 8
Check the reverse camera from a cold boot▶ 6:15
Even on a cold boot the reverse camera comes up.
- 9
Set the screen height▶ 6:53
It's a tight fit in the back. You can raise the screen, but at the highest position it blocked the vents in this car.
- 10
Angle it▶ 7:39
The screen can angle slightly toward the passenger and stays solid.
- 11
Steering-wheel keys and TPMS▶ 8:39
This car has no steering-wheel controls, but the key-learning screen is there if yours does. The TPMS screen showed the tire readings.

0:00It's going to be a pretty quick install because well it's very easy to install a head unit like this.
0:06So we're just going to do it real fast.
0:07Screwdriver, we are doing a fast installs. The thing is it's going to be fast. Generally the longest thing
0:26that takes one when it comes to something like this is the reverse camera because the
0:31the reverse camera because the reverse camera of the
0:33reverse camera is just it's
0:34it, it's annoying to use the.
0:35So we remove the old harness out.
0:39The new harness and got the old brackets out
0:44the new brackets in. And yeah. Here we go
1:00this.
1:05All right so we have a plug plugged in right here.
1:09Everything was pretty much with the harness from Toyota.
1:13It's plug and play with the SIDA harness. Now we have a really
1:18crude way of making sure everything works. Things I like to test is audio. Make sure the audio
1:24works. But yeah, we have the phone right there. Do you see it? Are you connected?
1:34Okay cool. So we do have the phone and um is this the home button? I don't know what button is this?
2:04Cool,, so audio works.
2:30Do that. It does get the reverse signal so it knows it's in reverse. It just has no every video output.
2:36So we have to keep investigating. So you can see the backup camera. Oh that's a cool car.
2:42Make sure for the DOSIDA head units come around over here. So we have a brown wire.
2:48So this is the reverse camera is the hardest. We wonderfully available. We have a brown wire
2:51it's called camera v in. I don't know how that's going to pick up but this camera v and we're
2:55We're having it hooked up through the OEM
3:04, I'm right here so you can see here right here how to do it because it's just, it's just way too crazy
3:08but anyways on the the side of front you just want it's it's going to be handled
3:12through the camera vid that's pretty much it so what I'm on do is I'm gonna wrap everything up
3:17plug in everything in the back we're not going to use HD and my new thing and we're
3:20going to see how this thing looks at wrapping things up what you can do is you
3:24can twist type things we have usb's we have tpm s we have gps we have the
3:32wifi right here you you can put somewhere you have the backup camera there's a lot of
3:38functionalities. We have the full harness. Of course. The full harness that
3:43carries the audio channels, the DEMR switches and everything.
3:49We have HDMI. So stuff. So just kind of neatly tuck it in there. Of course, of course.
3:59We have an extra 28-pin right here.
4:29Now there's some guide holes right there some guide holes right there and bam we are in now we just
4:31, and bam we are in now we just can I
4:38screw the bee bees on wrapping things up this one's I know this installs a
4:45lot faster you get quick with these that move
4:57we have to decide a 10 inch the join is nice this has a really cool mount it's good
5:05this. So we have the join! Then we have the Dasaita. The brook 10 inch. The
5:35distinct freaking low oh oh oh look at that that's a lower than the
5:46huh yeah really well so even when you're this is the cold boot even when you're
6:15cold-duding you can still have the reverse camera on we can add the lines and
6:19all that stuff in a bit but we just want to make sure the core functionality
6:45Oops.
6:50So you guys, that has those teeth.
6:53It is a pretty tight fit in the back.
6:55You can go higher.
7:01are blocking the vents now we had this issue where it's blocking the vents
7:04earlier but just having this mount so this is like pretty much the highest
7:08position you can have it before you take off the screen so you have a
7:11plenty of the adjustments all the way down that is sick wow so the the I like this
7:22one because it comes out a little bit further the the join one was nice too but
7:28it was just in right here you can tilt it close so you
7:39Slightly angles towards the passenger and it's it's solid
7:46Yeah, that whoa we out here boys. We are yeah. Yeah
7:52I-I play too much. So this has it's amazing.
8:05so I don't know how so you can make it so rotates perhaps a future future oh future
8:18a thing but it's a turn on the lights you got that default blue color
8:24calculator we got wheel key studies this car doesn't even have a steering
8:39Interesting number is there. We got will key studies this car doesns even have a steering wheel controls
8:51we gotta check this out of the TPMS I don't know if that one's really low but this one we're Gucci
9:01So. So yeah, you gotta see if you can mess again. That's nice.
9:08Anyways that's that's pretty much it
9:38Oh, no, oh, you got a feeling, the music is singing.
9:59you
