This 30 min guide covers the iDoing silver-finish plug-and-play head unit for.
Overview
John's beginner-friendly Camry install on a US base model. You only need a Phillips, a 10mm socket with an extension and a plastic pry tool (iDoing includes one). The silver unit matches the trim around the A/C, and its harness ports take the factory plugs directly, with no adapters. Remove the trim around the shifter (two Phillips screws behind it) and the panel with the cigarette lighter and ports, squeezing the clips to unplug them. That reveals two 10mm bolts low down. The top trim is the risky part: Camry dashes of this era had a recall for going gooey and deforming, so pry slowly with a plastic tool; a vent may come off with it and clips back in. Two more 10mm bolts up top, then the unit is held only by clips. Pry and pull with a microfiber towel underneath. Unplug the three harnesses, two antennas and the A/C plug, then test-fit the iDoing: it boots with a Toyota logo, plays sound and pairs Bluetooth. To finish, unbolt the climate panel brackets and slide the panel off the old radio (it slides up like a credit card), fit it to the new unit, and plug in the USBs (route extras to the glove box and a hidden spot), the microphone, the magnetic GPS antenna on top of the unit, and the white antenna lead. Wireless CarPlay connects through Zlink after Bluetooth pairing, and the built-in steering-wheel key learning works without a Maestro or other interface.

Step by step
- 1
Tools▶ 0:41
A small Phillips, a plastic pry tool (iDoing includes one) and a 10mm socket with an extension for the four bolts. That's all it takes.
- 2
Check your radio▶ 1:23
This is the US base-model radio. If you have the upgraded JBL with navigation and the 6-disc / DVD changer, expect issues with this install.
- 3
No adapters needed▶ 2:13
The iDoing's ports take the factory harness plugs directly, with separate leads only for accessories like USB. The silver finish matches the A/C surround.
- 4
Shifter-area trim▶ 2:43
Remove the trim to reveal two Phillips screws, unscrew them and keep them somewhere safe (a lidded cup holder works).
- 5
Cigarette-lighter / port panel▶ 4:06
Pull the panel from the seam, starting where the clips are weaker than the yellow ones, straight up on both sides. Squeeze each plug's clip to unplug the lighter and ports.
- 6
Two lower 10mm bolts▶ 7:55
Two 10mm bolts low down and two up top hold the radio. Remove the lower two first; don't drop them into the dash.
- 7
Pry the top trim gently▶ 9:00
Use a plastic pry tool, not a flathead, and go slowly. A vent may come off with the trim; it clips back in by its tabs.
Warning: Camry dashes of this era had a recall for going gooey and deforming. Pry carefully so you don't damage it.
- 8
Two upper 10mm bolts, then pry and pull▶ 11:13
With all four bolts out the radio is held only by clips. Put a microfiber towel down and pull it out at an angle.
- 9
Unplug▶ 12:48
On this US car there were three harness plugs, two antennas and the A/C plug. Your configuration may vary.
- 10
Test before assembly▶ 13:32
Plug the three main plugs and antenna into the iDoing and power on. It boots Android 10 with a Toyota logo, plays sound and pairs Bluetooth.
- 11
Transfer the climate panel▶ 17:42
Remove the bracket bolts and slide the climate panel off: it hooks in an L shape and slides up like a credit card rather than pulling straight out. Fit it to the new unit the same way.
- 12
USB, extra USBs and leads▶ 19:32
Plug in the main USB-A, plus the extra lead for two more ports. Route one to the glove box (handy for charging or a dash cam) and one to a hidden spot. HDMI, AUX, subwoofer, line-out and reverse-camera leads are optional; plug them in now so they're there later.
- 13
Mic and GPS▶ 21:31
Add the external mic for better call quality. Mount the magnetic GPS antenna on top of the head unit instead of the dash, keeping it clear of the vents.
- 14
Antenna and final plugs▶ 23:53
Use the white antenna lead, plug the three factory harnesses back in, and don't forget the A/C plug. Slide the unit in; it's held by clips but isn't going anywhere.
- 15
Wireless CarPlay▶ 25:02
Pair the iPhone over Bluetooth, open Zlink and CarPlay connects wirelessly with no cable.
- 16
Program the steering-wheel keys▶ 27:11
In the wheel key settings, reset, then press each wheel button and assign it (volume, previous / next, home, mute) and save. No Maestro or other interface needed.

0:00We are back again with the next video.
0:18We are back again with another video.
0:21We have an iDoing head unit.
0:23So amazing.
0:24We have a Toyota camera right here that we're going to be installing this nice android
0:29head unit so I got a lot of requests on this Camry whoo is bright but stay
0:36tuned and we're gonna install it on this bad boy all right for the install it's
0:41very simple you need like a Phillips little plus sign right there screwdriver a
0:47prying tool you don't need this but it's nice to have iDoing actually includes
0:53this so you ever want you to have
0:55and we got a 10 millimeter this remove
1:00there's four bolts that you need to
1:01remove so you need a 10 and I have an
1:04extension just to give me a little more
1:06room to work with that all that's all
1:08it takes and really you can get away
1:10with just this so very the very easy to install
1:14we are in the Camry and this is the
1:23and you'll be able to do this no problem. Now this is the base model
1:27hence the head unit. Now if you have the upgraded JBL with the navigation 60
1:34changer DVD and all that, you and Ii you're gonna run into some issues
1:38with some issues with the install. So this is more for the base head unit
1:42and I will show you guys how to install this for your eye
1:46Doing and the moment everybody's waiting for this is the iDoing head unit by iDoing
1:56So you have this nice silver metallic finish, let me try to see if I can get down the Sun
2:02Tender this one-handed it matches the silver around the AC in the rest of the car
2:09So that's beautiful. Now. Let's turn and around. Tender around
2:13here here. Now what's really nice so
2:17you have some. Now, what's really nice doing, is they, they don't have additional harnesses, they have some for, the accessories like USB. But if you get a good look right here, you'll notice that, let me see if I can brighten it up for you guys, you can tell that they already have all the plugs just. Get the OiumEM harness. And then you plug it in here. No adapters or anything like that. It is, it's already built in.
2:43The first thing you, you need to do is you can remove the
3:13And that's going to reveal two Phillips screws, which we will have...
3:25have to unscrew.
3:26So get the tool.
3:29This is a little small one.
3:32So I had a little more of a smaller.
3:35Small screwdrivers because inside a car, there's not a lot of room.
3:40screws you definitely want to keep in a safe place. Usually I put these in a, a
3:46cup holder, just gonna put it in a cup holder because it does have a door
3:50So maybe it won't get lost.
3:52So now you can pull this out,
3:55but you're have this trim down here blocking it.
4:06So you see that, you see the trim piece,
4:09it's this trim piece right here, not the bottom one.
4:14So you get this trim piece and I just use my hands
4:16but you can pry it openly.
4:20I'll show you where the clips are at so that it makes more sense
5:20I in my' parking more so keep that mind too when you start your car sometimes other cars will detect that and
5:28They won't
5:30but
5:32Yes, so you're gonna have that and we're
5:37Remove
5:50I really don't need it for this car.
5:57and when I, and I pulled.
5:59was right here there's a little gap right here a little seam
6:03and it's kind of hard to get in camera
6:06but you just pull that out
6:10now there is wires for the cigarette lighter
6:16boom look at that all the guts exposed I know the lighting is a little bit
6:24harsh but you know bear with me the clips on this right here if you guys
6:31have a hard time is right here and this is where I pulled in this section right
6:38here where it's a little bit weaker these clips aren't as strong as these
6:41yellow clips right here so try to pull from this one and I pulled from
6:46both sides straight up okay so now that we had that out of the way you can you
6:58don't have to unplug it you can just kind of twist it like this and then we just
7:02have to
7:16Both used to be very useful at the time, not so much anymore.
7:25Now these ports are held by clips, so there's little plugs on the back of them and you just
7:33unplug them.
7:40This is how the plugs look like and you can see there's little clips and you just squeeze
7:49it and then pull the cable out.
7:51Squeeze it pull the cable out.
7:55And I was saying this now reveals the two 10 millimeter bolts down here.
8:01So we finally got it.
8:04What holds this head unit together is two 10s right here and two 10s above here and
8:10that's it. So, all right. So, you can see that. This is a real point of view. So we
8:18looking in. Now you'll see a 10 somewhere around here and a 10 somewhere around
8:25here. So there's two of them. Remove those and we are done on the bottom.
8:40About a boom, about a beacon.
8:45One more to go, your fingers, and ta-da, that's exactly what you want.
8:51Good thing I still see it, make sure you don't lose these in the cavern.
9:00Now the top piece is a little bit more risky.
9:04I say, I say risky because this, the Toyota trim right here, this dashboard, it's, there
9:11was a recall on it because it's not very good.
9:14It gets kind of gooey and it kind of breaks down.
9:16So the plastic or whatever they use here, it, it like deforms and stuff.
9:21So when you're prying at it, try to be very careful.
9:26You're going to have to pry this open somehow without damaging your dash.
9:32So just kind of go easy at first, see how the dash takes it.
9:40So it's because of Toyota and their quality on their dash.
9:48This one seems good.
9:49I kind of taken it slow.
9:54My little trim tool.
9:55Yes, you can use a flathead, but for this part, I would definitely try to find a
10:00a plastic pry tool which is included at least in my iDoing kit there you go somehow
10:19some way. This vent stayed on it.
10:30It's a little bit strange. I'll pop that off
10:36okay as then has popped this vent back in so the way these vents work is there's
10:43little tabs and
10:47push it back in.
10:51Let me just give it to you with that.
10:55There you go, and make sure it's clipped onto here.
10:59There you go. So, yeah,
11:03I would say that's the hardest part and what was great is there was
11:07no damage to the dash.
11:11And
11:13Get close up so you guys can see it reveals two 10s right there
11:19See if I can brighten it up for you guys can see
11:22one
11:23Two so let's remove those and we should be golden
11:36All right, so
11:38After you remove the two bolts up top and the two bolts down below
11:43This is where things
11:45Go a little of more you think it's put some muscle into it we call this the prey and pull
11:51That's just means be careful when you're pulling it. Nothing else is holding it besides clips
11:56and you just pull which
11:58I just did. Now I like to put a little microfiber towel to kind of help any like if it falls down or something like that it protects like the paint
12:07here, so
12:09So literally of the down
12:11and,
12:14now it's in an awkward angle so I am gonna have to just pull it out
12:18And you guys are just gonna have to do that on your
12:48Also, also messing with the ace below, so we're gonna plug the ace.
12:55And walla that's
13:00it.
13:01So, let me show you guys again.
13:07I know this shows four, but there was three plugs here, two antennas, and then we have
13:13the AC.
13:14Now your car might vary because this is a U.S. model
13:18and there's also always a lot of different kind of configurations
13:22but for my configurations that's how it was.
13:26Right, so this is the exciting part.
13:29Now we're going to test this make sure it works.
13:32So we're going to put this unit into here.
13:39Let's get those three main plugs in and you could do
13:43you know radio and stuff too the antennas for that so there's one plug and then we
13:48get the second plug and see if this fits anywhere it does so we do have it plugged
13:56in beautiful now let's check fitment squeeze this it would fit something like
14:10This that is beautiful my friends. Oh, yeah, look at that
14:18Now we are going to and it has a screen protector on it, too
14:26Fire it on
14:30Whoop it turns on
14:32ten it
14:34But this is a Android 10 and it already has the Toyota
14:38Boudin, this is awesome. You love to see it my boys. You love to see it. Next.
14:47Okay so the next milestone is having sound working. I didn't touch anything
14:53with the wires it was just plug-and-play but we like to test everything before we
14:58finish wrapping everything up. I hear some noise. That's good. So we do have
15:05volume. I don't have the radio plugged in or anything like that, but I do have
15:12something called a phone. All right, so we're in Bluetooth right now. We hit this
15:19magnifying glass and that will search for a Bluetooth device. I'm going to hit
15:24pair a new device too. So I'm pairing J2. That's me. There you go. Do you
15:33want to pair with Camry. Heck yeah
16:03So what I'm gonna do right now is I'm gonna wrap things up and clean up pretty much. So we're gonna transfer the climate control. The vents were pretty easy. The climate control there is a bunch of mounts. Oh, this. This
16:50oh we have my assistant right here hello she's actually my fiance and she is actually the
17:08boss I am the assistant you love to hear it you love to hear it yes boss
17:19just you know slave in her away just unscrewing these uh these bolts
17:29but audio works and everything's working so just got to remove these, and we should be
17:40golden.
17:42Alright so with its boosted out real quick with the brackets removed this puppy just
17:51slides out so it just slides right out like what you just saw right there
17:59So the way the mounting works is let's see you see how it has the little L shape so you put it in
18:07And you slide it up like a credit card slide it up. So you don't just pull it out. It's a slide up
18:14now
18:15We take this out
18:17right here
18:21And we get the new bad boy
18:23Notice I
18:29a bunch of clothes and jackets. It really helps when it comes to minimizing any kind
18:31of harsh scratches. So I highly recommend it. Now we're going to have to remove all
18:43plugs we just plugged in. Remember the first time we did it was to make sure everything
18:51works. Now for this, let's do the same process. Hopefully it fits. Put it in,
18:56slide it in, boom. And it looks like you just use pressure to
19:21great. Now it's just going to be held by clips now, it's not going to be held by bolts, but
19:26honestly this thing isn't going to go anywhere trust me. Alright so the next part is plugging
19:32everything in USBs, antennas and all. Now that part could be kind of scary. So I'll walk
19:40it through you. Nothing to be scared of. It's a USB. You're very familiar with this
19:44or you should be. So USB type A and we're going to plug this in pretty simple. It's
19:54going to go right here. Boom. It also has a diagram down here but this is a video
20:02install so I'll show you guys and that's pretty much all you need but if you
20:09want more USBs there is another wire right here this gives you an additional
20:15two so that's one plus two three and you want to plug this into and go
20:23right here and this is gonna be useful for Android Auto Apple CarPlay it's
20:29already twist tie, but I'm gonna untwist tie it, route it to the glove box, or
20:35somewhere where the owner will appreciate charging, their new devices, or if they
20:41have a dash cam, usually dash cams can get powered by USBs too, so it's very
20:46versatile. Boom, so you got that right there.
20:52Then we have a nice HDMI
20:55This right here is ox
20:59Subwoofer
21:01Line in out line out, which we're not gonna really, really use
21:08But i'm gonna plug it in just in case so it goes right there and
21:13Then we also have
21:15No, this is the reverse camera and stuff like that
21:22Which we will not be installing either and then we also have another one right
21:31here is a microphone so you see how much stuff there is boom microphone
21:37plugged in we even have more stuff friend ox up front ox out and stuff I'm
21:49plugging this in these are actually we're not going to be even
21:56not going to be even using so we can probably just twist tie this to keep it
22:01organized but I did it's easy to plug it in there and like now just in case you
22:07need it later instead of looking for it later that makes sense so these aren't
22:12even needed we just really need the USB ports and then you're gonna have
22:17microphone the head unit itself has a
22:21microphone in the front which is pretty
22:24it's good enough for me but we'll add
22:27this one so you get better audio quality
22:31so it looks like this like a little
22:33like a little mic. And then lastly we have
22:36the GPS antenna. Now some people
22:39routed to the top of their dashboard
22:41honestly I think that looks pretty
22:43ugly so I just mounted to the top
22:46of the head unit itself, kind of like this.
22:51So it's like held by either 3M or magnet
22:54depending on what type did you get.
22:56This one's a magnet, which is kind of nice.
22:59And try Allele to block the vents.
23:01Not that it matters too much.
23:05And then I screw it in.
23:07Boom.
23:09I know now it's starting to look a little crazy, huh?
23:13All these wires and stuff.
23:16And we're going to route this over here somehow.
23:23So now there's going to be USB's down there.
23:27And I always like to route another USB like right here.
23:35This one's more hidden so the driver wanted to be more stealth.
23:41That option is there for him.
23:50So we have the USB's in place.
23:53We have the only thing that we don't have plugged in is the antenna.
23:58So you want to use the white the white one.
23:59This other one is sometimes used for like radio, another type of radio.
24:07plug in the big one and that's it. It's plugging those three wires wires we talked
24:14about earlier that we unplugged.
24:19Boom, slide this puppy back here, boom.
24:44All these wires.
24:49Don't forget that there's that AC plug.
24:56Alright, so I wrapped everything
24:58kind of in. We still have the vents and stuff. We tried the iPhone.
25:02So the first thing you want to do is you get the Bluetooth.
25:06Go, to the Bluetooth. P
25:08The same way, we paired it my Android phone. Now the iPhone is in and a
25:13As soon as you plug-in the iPhone, you can go to Z-Link and then you can get Apple CarPlay right off the bat.
25:20This is wireless, no wires, it's really good.
25:24Apple CarPlay, wireless, is so good on these Android headphones, it's crazy.
25:30I use an Android phone, and it's worse than this interface right here.
25:35So, you Apple users, good job, good on you.
25:39You got the better OS integration right now, and there's music, maps, and stuff like that.
25:45It's really slick.
25:46We got Spotify.
25:47So, you got this Spotify right here too.
25:50So, CarPlay works and then, you know, the song, the music works.
26:01Very nice.
26:02iPhone.
26:03It was Bluetooth, we didn't have to use lightning, lightning cables or anything to pair it, it was just Bluetooth
26:08and we were off to the races.
26:11So that's very awesome and this is an iPhone 12S or something like that.
26:16I don't know, I don't use an iPhone but it's the newest one that came out in 2020.
26:21I'm thinking iPhone 12 or 12S, whatever.
26:27Alright, so I'll wrap it up, do some glamour shots.
26:32I'm very happy with this install on an older Camry.
26:35This older Camry makes it
26:38this head unit alone makes it look so new.
26:41I think Toyota's engines and stuff,
26:43they've been keeping it very reliable
26:44and not too many changes.
26:46So just having a new head unit
26:47makes this Camry basically better
26:50than the new 2021 Camry as crazy it sounds.
26:54I guarantee you this is a lot faster,
26:57a lot smoother, snappier, sounds better.
27:02customize it and all that so very happy oh yeah then oh it's how smooth it is
27:11let me show you serial controls real quick so let me zoom out get that in the
27:16frame go wheel key studies let's reset this real quick so volume down you press
27:22that boom volume down volume up this is for a double tap not just a single tap
27:31down down's gonna be us to previous forward it's gonna be this right here
27:41and then mode is gonna be let's do the let's do the home and then if we press
27:50home again and then the hold one because on the camera
27:54Every steering wheel has hold to basically audio off.
27:56Let's do, you get all these features
28:00like microphone and all that.
28:03We're just gonna do, I'm
28:06looking for mute or let's do play pause, but let's do mute.
28:14So we have to hit save, hit okay.
28:19And now we got, we got,.
28:24is that you don't have to buy any aftermarket access or Maestro data link
28:31it all just works out of the box I love that man you love to see those things
28:37are like 80 a hundred bucks this thing's built in it's a built-in and it's
28:42some what you can customize it you can program it I know it might seem like a
28:47small thing but trust me when I had my Honda S2000 and I was seeing all these
28:53LED flashes were still in all it was just a mess man so it's so easy to do with this head
29:00head unit now I'm gonna wrap it up and then again show you those glamour shots
29:23Thank you for watching, and I'll see you in the next video!
