Yes — you can install iDoing on the iDoing plug-and-play head unit for the Toyota Corolla E170 (store link in the description; the listing today is titled 2012–2016 E170 / E180 and is a 10.2" Android 12 unit) with a 20 min DIY job. Pop the Corolla's top trim, pull the four 10mm bolts and the old radio, plug in.
Overview
John installs an iDoing CarPlay head unit in a Corolla for a first-time CarPlay user. This car had an aftermarket radio, so he cuts to his OEM removal footage: pry the top trim up from the side with a plastic pry tool or flathead, work around the tabs, then remove the four 10mm bolts and pull the radio, watching the sharp metal edges against the trim. Behind it are the factory 28, 20, 10 and 6-pin plugs (plus airbag and turn-signal wires you leave alone). The 10-pin carries power, dimming and the front speakers; the 6-pin carries the rear audio. iDoing's kit comes already laid out, so it's plug and play with no extra adapters: one factory plug that doesn't fit takes a small included adapter, and the red CAN box shows A/C and door-open status on screen. He adds the antenna (with the orange booster lead), the Wi-Fi/mic cable, a USB lead and the GPS antenna. The fix many people need: the reverse camera plugs into the top port labeled Toyota, not where you'd expect. Finally he transfers the hazard button, passenger airbag light and yellow clips, and has to break off three interfering tabs with pliers before the unit sits flush.

Step by step
- 1
Pry up the top trim▶ 1:44
Use a plastic pry tool or flathead from the side, twist, and work your way around until all the tabs release.
Warning: Don't yank it: the trim still has plugs attached that need to be unplugged.
- 2
Remove the radio▶ 2:30
Four 10mm bolts hold the radio in. Pull the whole unit out carefully: the metal edges are sharp and can scratch the trim.
- 3
Unplug the factory radio▶ 3:00
Press the small pin on each plug and pull: radio antenna, steering controls, USB and the rest, including the 6-pin rear speaker plug.
- 4
Know the factory plugs▶ 3:53
There are 28, 20, 10 and 6-pin harnesses. The 10-pin carries power, headlight dimming and the front speakers; the 6-pin carries rear audio. The airbag and turn-signal wires stay as they are.
- 5
Plug in iDoing's harness▶ 4:54
iDoing lays the kit out for you. Start from the bottom: 10-pin, 6-pin, then the 20 and 28-pin. Make sure each clicks in fully. No extra adapters needed.
Tip: Put a sleeve or towel over the shift knob, since you'll rest the unit there a lot.
- 6
Use the small adapter for the odd plug▶ 6:21
If one factory plug doesn't fit, that's normal. iDoing includes a small adapter for it. Then connect the red CAN box, which shows A/C and door-open status on the screen.
- 7
Antenna▶ 7:22
Plug the car's antenna into the orange-and-black adapter from the box. The orange wire is a booster that strengthens the signal; it's optional but helps.
- 8
Wi-Fi, mic and USB▶ 8:13
Match the notches on the blue main cable; the Wi-Fi antenna runs off it. Plug in the microphone and a USB lead (8-pin) so you can test wired and wireless CarPlay. The 4G antennas and SIM slot are optional.
- 9
Fix: reverse camera plug▶ 9:31
The backup camera does not plug into the usual spot. With this iDoing setup it goes into the top port labeled Toyota. Shift to reverse to confirm the camera shows up.
Tip: If your reverse camera doesn't work, this is the first thing to check.
- 10
Transfer the passenger airbag light and hazard▶ 10:32
The passenger airbag indicator pops in from the back. The hazard button goes in the opposite way; just push it in.
- 11
GPS antenna▶ 11:35
Screw the GPS antenna onto the port labeled GPS (far left from the back). It's magnetic; tuck it where it won't block vents. Optional if you use your phone's maps through CarPlay.
- 12
Tidy the wiring▶ 12:43
Route an extra USB to where the owner can charge things, tuck everything in, and skip what you don't need (subwoofer RCA, 4G antenna). The front microphone worked fine in testing.
- 13
Transfer the yellow clips▶ 13:32
Pop the yellow clips off the old radio's trim and move them to the new unit. They hold the head unit in place, so don't skip the corners.
- 14
Trim the interfering tabs▶ 14:39
The unit wouldn't push in until John broke off three tabs with pliers and cleaned up a corner with clippers. He had to do the same on another brand's unit. After that it sits flush.
- 15
Reinstall the trim and test▶ 17:21
Clip the top trim back on, wipe it down, then test: reverse camera, hazards, A/C display and fan speed changes all show on screen. Hit the CarLink button to start CarPlay.
Wiring notes
- Factory plugs: 28, 20, 10 and 6-pin. 10-pin = power, dimming, front speakers; 6-pin = rear audio.
- iDoing harness plugs straight in; the one leftover factory plug uses the small included adapter.
- Red CAN box: A/C and door-open info on screen.
- Reverse camera: top port labeled Toyota.
- Antenna via the orange-and-black adapter (orange = booster). GPS antenna on the GPS port.
- Optional: 4G antennas, SIM slot, subwoofer RCA, extra USB.

0:00So why don't you get up all right if I had this issue you guys around probably run this is issue too
0:14So on her phone this is use a carplay. Let's use
0:19Have used Carplay before so this is a, so you're gonna be amazing. This is you much this thing
0:40What's up guys, it's your boy John today. We're gonna be doing it instant Toyota Corolla
0:46So we had the Toyota Cori right there
0:49Installing this head unit now your head unit already have a trim installed but in my case it
0:55So I'm gonna
1:17So I already did a removal video on this car right here
1:23So I'm gonna cut to that real quick so you guys can see it
1:26It's basically the OEM head unit removal and I'll put the I'll
1:31to that point and then start from this video the reason why is this one actually has an aftermarket head unit
1:36So I got removed after our market head unit. Most people are gonna have the OEM one
1:40So cut there and we'll continue forward really easy
1:44Youe can use a plastic pry tool or a flat head depending on how balls are your but you kind of hit
1:50From the side right here, then you just twist and
1:53Starts to come up really easy
1:57Then you should be able to just work your way around and pull the rest of the tabs out
2:01This should release all the tabs
2:04But be careful don't pull out because these things need to be unplugged and
2:10It's just being held
2:30I think these are just 10 mils and this unit should be able to come out no problem.
2:35We're gonna use that tool before.
2:37Oh man.
2:38You move it left.
2:39There you go.
2:40So this is already loose.
2:42So do the next bolt.
2:44So there's four tents and it should pull out.
2:47Alright, so we have the screws, the four bolts taken out.
2:51You just pull the whole head unit.
2:52And this is where you need to be careful careful.
2:54You see these little.
2:55This is actually really sharp and that could scratch your your trim pieces
3:00Okay, can you help, me put unplug these. It's just a little pin on here and you just pull it out
3:05Sot that's gonna be your radio antenna this is gonna be your steering wheel controls
3:11This one's gonna be tough
3:13This is your USB that is, it could be your steering
3:19your steering wheel controls to to
3:22Usually it's like a back of camera go ahead
3:25Don't break a nail though. No if you're scared, I'll do it
3:31I get it
3:33I can't do it. there
3:45There you thinly. This is a- this is a six pin. Yes, six pin. So that's your rear speakers. So the head units out looking clean. All right, so
3:46Back to the present after you remove the top trim and then the OEM head unit
3:53You'll be at this point right here now there is the existing OEM cables
3:59So we have looks like
4:00like a 28 pin, this might be a the 20 pin, 10 pin and 6 pin. These are the main wires
4:08you have to worry about. This one was for the air bag, passenger airbag and this
4:16This wire here is for your turn signal, so we don't have to worry about that right now.
4:19Let's focus on these. right here.
4:21These two out of these four main harnesses, your 10 and six pin is the most important.
4:27So this one controls all like the speakers and power and everything.
4:30So let's focus on these two right now get these plugged in so the 10 pin controls power when you turn on your head lights as it dim
4:38Your front speakers
4:40If like all that so you want so the 10 pin carries most everything just six pin right. in here carries
4:47or audio so if you have issues with rear audio something like that
4:50It's gonna be on your six pins. You don't really have to worry about that too much
4:54Let's just get the kit that iDoing provides
4:57Which is right here and you see how iDoing already has everything laid out
5:03I know out. Let's just plug it in and moving for their sound plug in
5:10The 10 pin which is right here the six pin the 28 pin and 20 pin
5:17Let's get that plugged in
5:20boom, I
5:22Know you might not have the best angle
5:25Actually, let's do the 10 pin first start from the bottom to the top
5:28So we got the 10 pin plugged in six pin
5:36the 10 pin plugged in, six pin, I'm gonna, I'm gonna put my long sleeve right here just
5:48to protect the ship knob, because I will be resting the head unit a lot over here. So
5:55we got that was a 20 pin and a 28 pin. So bam, that's it. You're pretty much good
6:03I know that sounds insanely easy like wow, I'm already done done
6:07But that's all it really takes. It's crazy. Make sure you plug it in all the way
6:12Where it clips in iDoing seriously makes it easy. There's no extra adapters. You literally just plug it and play
6:21Now not all the plugs might plug in which is the case here
6:26Because like you like hey this time. Doesn't fit and that's okay because you don't this might just be the e-brake or something like that
6:31or something like that. So we only have three plugs plugged in right now. I don't know if I can really
6:37show that, but we have the 10 pin, the 6 pin and then the 28 pin. Okay, so we have that plugged
6:45in right now. Then check out this. There is an adapter right here and this might plug
6:51into that one plug right here. Yep, it does. So that one plug that didn't fit, I do and
6:57does provide a little thing and that might be backup camera or something like
7:01that so let's plug that in full out red box now you might be asking what does this
7:06do this controls this car has AC and door stuff so when you open the door it's
7:14actually going to show it on the head unit so we plug it in right here make sure you
7:19here nice satisfying click next off is
7:22is we do have a antenna
7:32Let's plug in that and and
7:40So the back of this car has this antenna right here
7:44So it's technically five you want to use this orange and black one that would came within it within the box
7:50Plug that in here
7:52And you plug it in here
7:55Now this orange wire is like a booster. So if you
7:59It makes your antennas signal stronger. It's not? Not needed, but it helps. So there's this little orange thing right here
8:12Now let's go and get all these cables right here. Okay
8:13You'll have this the blue the blue of this blue one right here notice where this notch is
8:38So we'll plug in this something that also has a notch
8:41And this is gonna be the case right here and the wi-fi antennas actually gonna be off of this wire
8:47So you definitely want to plug that in you also have a microphone input and break so
8:52Overall this is kind of like your main setup
8:55You do have all these other cables like the 4g cable the 4g antennas which we're not gonna use right now
9:02You also have a necessary. This is where you put the sim card in so you do have that kind of capability
9:07of the same with this this is more usb ports
9:11We don't really need that a right now actually let's plug in the usb port to
9:15test out wireless
9:18Apple CarPlay or wire Apple CarPlay
9:22, so you see this is a
9:238-pin and you can pretty much just look and see where it fits in this case. It looks like it fits right here
9:31here. Snap it in. Boom! Great. Alright if I had this issue you guys are
9:39probably run this this is issue two so the backup camera actually does
9:44not plug into these ones right here it plugs into this top one where it says
9:49Toyota. So if you guys have a reverse issue, now you know you plug in this one
9:54right here which I already had plugged
9:56in fian but I had this black plug actually plugged into the wrong spot
10:01generally we had usually plugs in here but actually with this iDoing set up it
10:07is right there so I was right now isn't so sit one more time head to
10:13reverse doesn't look like it shows steering angle or anything like that but
10:19reverse camera definitely safety feature and necessity so we got this and
10:27working which is great it's great I put my little shit right here next thing you
10:32want to do is transfer these little pieces. Get that transferred over. So this passenger
10:45thing actually just pops in like this just like so you would think it would go
10:54this way it doesn't you actually have to pop it
10:56from the back of course you probably want to do this the other way now the hazard
11:08Of course, you probably want to do this
11:10The other way now the hazard is actually opposite. This is the hazard button
11:16Goes in the right here just push it in and you're set to wrap things up plug in the hazard buttons
11:29And all that before we do that you guys already saw the why are in what we plugged in now
11:30before we do that you guys already saw the wiring what we plugged in. Now I'm
11:35I'm going to plug in this GPS antenna too, now you don't need this but this
11:41This will basically give you GPS antenna.
11:44I mean, you have it, why not.
11:46I primarily use this for Google Maps and Apple CarPlay
11:50based off my phone, but let's say my phone doesn't work.
11:53There'ss a label right here that says GPS.
11:56And you just screw it on.
11:58So in this, in this.
11:59In this case it's gonna be this far left one.
12:00this far left one far right looking at us but if you a look in the back would be
12:07the far left one and it's magnetic I just have it kind of plugged in right here
12:13I try not to block any little vents and you're pretty much set
12:19. Everything's plugged in besides this wire in this wire which is hazard
12:23button on the left and we have airbags on the right so let's shimmy all this
12:29through.
12:43it over here so toget one extra USB so the, so if they want to charge something or, or whatever it's available right there now you just want to clean up the wiring make sure everything is tucked push it in some of the stuff I didn't install was the RCA jacks for subwoofer the 4g antenna that just screws on
13:00You just want to clean up the wiring make sure everything is
13:04push it in
13:07Some of the stuff I didn't install was the RCA jacks for subwoofer the 4g antenna that just screws on
13:14Then the your phone this one already has a microphone in the front and in my testing
13:21It's all of it's it's the same
13:30boom back of the
13:32original head unit that was in the car you just pretty much want to transfer
13:37these yellow pins over to do that what I do this climb it is this
13:44climbing it over pop it out now no this will be very similar to the OEM I do
13:49not have the OEM this person's does have an aftermarket head unit but the
13:55tabs are the same
13:59Boom pop that out make sure you don't your seat over that it
14:02You don't eject Ocido that it
14:05But yeah, do it to all of them and then transfer it over to your new your right so I got all these little yellow clips
14:14Transferring it to the new one. So this is what pretty much keeps the head unit in place
14:27So it's very important
14:29That don't get these corners
14:35Definitely get these, corners.
14:39So in my case right here I'm trying to hit it in. I actually have to remove these tabs right here
14:45Because it's just causing clear issues. It won't let me push push it in. So
14:57They
15:00I actually installed a different brand version and I actually had to do the same thing
15:04where I actually had to shave these three clips.
15:08In this case it would be these three clips too.
15:12So right here what you can do is you can either use a needle nose and pry it
15:16and so I think that's what I'm going to do.
15:19Alright, I'm going to pull it back a little bit.
15:22You got these tabs that I just have to remove so I'm just using like some
15:26pliers and just pretty much breaking it. Don't know why it's like this. It's like
15:34So I got one pretty easy this big one needs to go to
15:41This little tab right here needs to go
15:50It's actually really easy to just pop it
15:54So you can see you got some good pliers. It's actually a little bit harder
16:27Now I do have like a little clippers, to see if you can clean up this corner, just gonna to cut it.
16:28Now I do have like a little clippers too, to see if I can clean up this corner a little bit, I'm just going to cut it, same with this, clean things
16:30little clippers too. See if I can clean up it's corner a little bit. Just gonna cut it.
16:36Same with this. Clean things up a little bit. Alright. Now let's see if it bumps into this.
16:56Oh that fits way better boom looker look at that. So with those top things unplugged or trimmed it's pretty much good to go.
17:10It's way better. Boom. Look at that
17:13So with those top things unplugged or trimmed
17:18It's pretty much good to go
17:21Now we want to put back this
17:24Trim right here
17:30Boom, boom, boom, looking good, give it one of the quick.
17:41You quick wipe down, and you're done.
17:43Just gonna set the car, put in reverse, reverse shows up, hazards, hazards working, AC, shows
18:01hazards hazards working
18:05AC
18:06Shows it. Let's increase it
18:12fan speeds you can see it increasing
18:15if you guys were interested in this head unit just
18:19links down in the description and
18:22If this install was helpful to you and troubles shooting issues
18:25about the camera and stuff
18:26Be sure to hit that like and subscribe button and comment especially
18:31Especially around this area right here
18:33I've really had to break the tabs. I'm gonna show you
18:39Another one right here. I really had to break these tabs right here.. So
18:43Interesting why you have to do that, but it's a necessity
18:47But everything else seems to be working fine. Thank you guys for watching. Catch you guys in the next one. Peace
18:56Now it normally should boot into car play
19:06So you can hit that button and press that car link
19:12You're fun with you
