John walks around a Lucid Air Grand Touring at his local mall and compares it to his Tesla Model S: trunk and frunk space, rear-seat features, soft-close doors, the massage seats, driver aids and the touchscreen UI. This 13 min guide covers the Walkaround of a Lucid Air Grand Touring; no parts are installed in this video with tools, parts.

Overview

A walkaround of the Lucid Air Grand Touring on display at John's local mall, with a running comparison to his Tesla Model S and notes on what the cheaper Air Pure does and doesn't get. Outside, the body and chassis are the same, but the Pure (John had a reservation on one) skips the Grand Touring's two-tone look (gloss silver with satin mirrors, which he prefers) and the glass roof, which isn't even an option; this car also has 21-inch wheels and bigger brakes, and a full-width tail light with the Lucid emblem at the tail light. The trunk goes in deep with a side pocket and a 12V outlet, but John thinks the Model S hatch is wider and can swallow more (he's fit a 65-inch TV in his). In the back you get vents, three-zone heated seats with a small display, black Alcantara, and door pockets his car doesn't have. The Grand Touring has soft-close doors, a glass roof and ventilated front seats; the Pure, as John understands it, skips the glass roof and ventilated seats but keeps the LED accent. Up front he tries the 3D surround view and auto park, the 20-minute massage seats, ambient-light themes, charging and driver-assist settings (lane departure, drowsiness, blind spot, cross-traffic, wheel turn when parking on a hill), physical climate controls and the hidden storage. His critiques: the UI is laggy and not as responsive, the wireless charger held but didn't charge his Samsung Galaxy Fold, and there's no dog mode (climate keep lasts 45 minutes). He planned to make a series when his own Lucid arrived.

      Step by step

      1. 1

Exterior: Grand Touring vs. Pure▶ 0:03

Same body and chassis. The Pure won't have this two-tone (gloss silver, satin-finish mirrors), which John prefers, and the glass roof isn't included or even an option on the Pure. This car has parking sensors, 21-inch wheels with bigger brakes, and a full-width tail light with the Lucid emblem.

      2. 2

        Trunk space▶ 1:16

A side pocket (probably for a charger) and a trunk that goes in really deep. John thinks the Model S still has the bigger, wider storage: he's fit a 65-inch TV in his, and this opening isn't as deep or wide. There's a 12V outlet and a small cubby too.

      3. 3

        Rear seats▶ 2:52

Rear vents, heated seats with a little display, and three zones so even the middle seat is heated. Black Alcantara, a cool plastic design with a leather piece, and door pockets, which John's car doesn't have.

      4. 4

        Soft-close doors▶ 4:01

The Grand Touring has soft-closing doors. John notes the full Pure specs weren't out yet.

      5. 5

Floor mats, seats and glass roof▶ 4:25

There's a little hub at the floor mats, the front seats are ventilated (he believes), and there's a glass roof with a small overhead pocket.

      6. 6

        What the Pure skips▶ 5:06

Per John, the Pure doesn't have this glass roof but does keep the nice LED accent.

      7. 7

        Steering wheel and controls▶ 5:22

A nice, grippy two-way wheel without a bottom piece, which John is fine with. The little knobs feel very futuristic.

      8. 8

Surround view and auto park▶ 5:33

The parking sensors include a 3D surround view with bird's-eye presets, and there's even auto park.

      9. 9

Massage seats and ambient light▶ 6:31

Lots of adjustments, recline and a 20-minute massage mode, plus themes that change the ambient lighting.

      10. 10

        Charging and driver aids▶ 7:31

Charge screen (the car was at 82%) with preconditioning and charge-port controls. DreamDrive settings include lane departure warnings, cruise control, drowsiness warning, blind spot, parking, cross-traffic protection, and turning the wheels to the curb when you park on a hill.

      11. 11

Physical climate controls and hidden storage▶ 8:18

Climate for both sides can be adjusted without going into the screens, which John likes. A hidden storage compartment slides out with a little animation, and the glove box is a decent size.

      12. 12

        UI responsiveness▶ 9:04

The touchscreen is kind of laggy and not as responsive, so John thinks Lucid has a lot of catching up to do, even with cool icons, HomeLink and driver profiles.

      13. 13

        Wireless charger▶ 9:35

John's Samsung Galaxy Fold sat in the wireless charger but didn't charge, and he'd heard the charger is subpar.

      14. 14

Ventilated seats and dog mode▶ 10:17

Ventilated seats won't be on the Pure. There's a mode to maintain temperature when you leave the car for 45 minutes, but no dog mode.

      15. 15

Back seats and heated wheel▶ 10:42

The back seats fold (not super wide because of the wheel arches), and there's a heated steering wheel controlled from the touchscreen.

0:03taking a look at the lucid air brand touring now we put a reservation on the Pure which is a really good bang for your buck and i'll go through the differences between if you're gonna look at the Pure and if you're gonna look at

0:18the grand touring or the touring first off the body is gonna be pretty much the same same shape same chassis the Pure will not have this two-tone which i actually prefer this is like a gloss silver and then the mirrors are

0:34like a satin finish but here you're not going to have that and if you notice here too you have the glass roof the glass roof is not included with the Pure it's not even an option but you got to keep that in mind right there oh nice parking sensors 21 inch wheels right here on the bigger brakes

0:51check out these tail lights if you want to step back watch your step so you got the full lean tail light which looks really nice uh i got the lucid the lucid emblem is actually above the tail light right inside of it and then it actually goes

1:06in about the same like more fingerlings so here's the trunk space you have a little side pocket right here

1:21this is what i'm guessing the charger and stuff like that little side pocket the model s has something very similar but it's actually not as wide or big so that's interesting right there but then um this goes in really deep the model s

1:36actually has a wider wider storage yes this opening is uh wider but it doesn't mean you know you can spit more stuff like the model s that i have definitely can fit like a 65 inch tv we're going to be struggling because look at that

1:51it's uh not that deep i'm not that wine um going in looking right here too looks like it's a good amount of space um the model s seems bigger here too the mall s just generally has a bigger

2:08rear uh storage trunk space right here keep on coming here you got a 12 volt right here and then very little small cubby right here there's not not as cavernous as the other spot but you can hold your oh

2:23there's a little tow hook very cool little plug it actually feels really good led lighting and then you do have a pass through remember the trunk isn't as big but what you don't with what it lacks oh it's also powered which is really nice

2:38what it lacks is in trunk space it makes up in the rear panel very very spacious right here um i have

2:54someone in front of me you got a little vent right here if you want to check out the vent yeah so you have a little bit right here which is super nice tesla moles doesn't have this the back seat right here you have a uh yeah vents right here and then you also

3:10uh heated seats and a little display we have more race you have three zones right here so even the middle seat has heated for the for the butt where the sides actually have um i'm not saying that the sides also happen for your back too

3:26you got a little pocket right here black alcantara this is like a this is plastic right here it has a really cool design and then you have this uh leather piece fit through and then you have a little pocket again

3:42my car doesn't have lily's pocket so that's a huge upgrade and i'm not they they don't know if uh they're gonna have these uh these blockers for the uh pure model but it is here on the

3:57grand touring not the full specs have been out yet and then also this does have soft closing doors so i'll demonstrate that

4:12there you go so you got that right there the floor mats it is like a uh there is a little hump right here it's not fully flat there's little there's a little hub right here and you got the floor mats

4:28the seats are ventilated not not ventilated but they're perforated i believe the front seats are ventilated and then you have just a nice seat belt right here and then you have the glass roof which is really nice

4:46up here is also a little little pocket right here you can store some right now

5:02uh after he's done we'll be able to take the uh a video of the front seats all right so we're gonna wrap it up in the interior night okay again the pure does not have

5:18this glass roof and this but it will have this nice led accent it looks good steering wheel is nice girthy this it's like a it's two-way it doesn't have this bottom piece which looks fine to me these little knobs feel very futuristic let me see if i go to the

5:33parking sensors so you do have a 3d surround view right now the doors are open but you can see that if the doors weren't open you'll be able to pinpoint your location more better like this better and oh there's even auto park yes fasten your seat belt for the auto

5:48part but isn't that cool you got the and you and there's actually a little like presets on where you can see it so you got the bird's eye view i wonder if i close this door so closing the door you can see now you

6:03can see more uh of that birth uh that 3d camera which is just so cool to see your car in third person that's awesome um let's get out of here again uh the ui is kind

6:18of it's kind of laggy like that's like for me it looks like 15 frames per second we have openings right here like i'm gonna press it you can see there's a little lag you can see seats you got reclines a bunch of adjustments

6:34massage let me let me start let me start this massage real quick 20 minute massage let's see how it i love the feels you feel it oh i feel it okay but what

6:51you feel it i don't feel it oh oh so it feels like someone said it feels like a baby's kicking does it feel like like definitely not okay we got a pregnant

7:06woman right here so she wouldn't know it does feel like um these little little hands are touching my butt right now it does feel nice you got themes so you can change the way it looks and it changes the amp the ambient light

7:21oh jeez it's up my butt that's an interesting feel uh it's rolling off my butt got different things charging right here it's at 82 percent you can pre-condition open charge

7:36we we already looked at the parking sensors which is that we have settings about access profile applications audio wi-fi display time zones and whatnot dream drive

7:51so it does have lane departure warning speed cruise control drowsy warning blind spot parking cross traffic protection auto park wheel crevices what's this

8:06okay so it'll turn your wheel when you park on the hill how you like that massage you still feel it yeah oh that's it's interesting and then you got the safety security you got your climate control right here too now you also have climate control right here so you can see on both sides and you can

8:22adjust it so you don't need to go on the screens to do that which is nice and you have the car itself which was the original menu so if you want to have hidden storage boom there you go get more storage right

8:37there and then to bring it out awesome it has a little animation and then you have the glove box which is a decent size other than that that's pretty much it this uh this ui right here let's see if i can change anything

8:53just music and stuff like that but this is all touchscreen too you have the home the navi the music player call yeah you remember that lag i was talking about it is kind of laggy

9:09not as responsive so they have a lot of catching up to do they do have a lot of cool icons a little uh lucid icon right there it's that home link driver profile right here i guess i'm trying to hit the home

9:25maybe this is a garage opener home link bluetooth wi-fi okay nice and then you got some storage right here now if you have a samsung galaxy flow i have a fold and it does not work with the wireless

9:40it does hold but it does not charge so if you're looking to have a wireless charger i heard the wireless charger is pretty subpar in this does not charge so

9:56nothing oh and it it's pulling the case so yeah the charger is bad is what they say as far as quality uh these seats are perforated i didn't turn off the massage sheets they're kind of distracting

10:11uh let me see if let me see that uh cool ac seats real quick oh let's see this is for you so that is not going to be included in the pure model no no uh ventilated seats but i love some ventilated seats i just can't

10:26justify the extra cost maintain temperature when you leave the car no no dog mode this is not and this lasts for 45 minutes so if you guys are interested in that you don't have that dog

10:41functionality and he just popped the back seats which is kind of cool if you want to show that um not super wide because of those wheel arches but not bad but yeah that that kind of concludes it

10:56you got a heated steering wheel too which is nice and it's all controlled in the touch pad but yeah if you guys are interested in the lucid air um i'm planning to make probably a series when i get mine uh later they're expecting it to be in production december and then next year

11:12early is when they take deliveries so i'm going to be waiting on that hopefully it all goes well but yeah it's a great car thank you guys for watching i'll catch you guys in the next one see ya
