Overview
John swaps the factory dual-projector PDLS headlights on his 997.2 Turbo S for Morimoto XB LEDs. The mechanical install is easy with the Porsche headlight tool. The tricky part is the car: with the swivel module still connected you get headlight-beam, dynamic-cornering and beam-adjustment faults. He codes them out with a Foxwell NT530, unplugs the swivel control module, and ends with no faults and no flashing lights.

Tools & parts
Tools
- Porsche headlight removal tool (stored under the trunk carpet)
- Snake / fish tool for routing the DRL wire
- Foxwell NT530 scanner for the coding
Parts
- Morimoto XB LED headlight pair
- Plug-and-play harness + fuse tap (included)
Step by step
- 1
Find the headlight tool▶ 2:53
Pull back the trunk carpet. The Porsche headlight removal tool is clipped in there.
- 2
Release the factory headlight▶ 3:13
Unscrew the threaded cap, pull out the rubber grommet/plunger, then put the tool in that hole and turn it to drive the headlight out. Unplug it and pull it out.
Tip: John turned the tool clockwise to release it.
- 3
Route the DRL wire▶ 3:52
Use a snake tool to feed the DRL wire to where it exits. One end goes to one side and two to the other, terminating between both headlights, so plan the route first.
- 4
Slide in the Morimoto and connect▶ 4:19
Set the headlight in place, connect the DRL wire, and plug the rest into the main harness. It slides straight in.
- 5
Sort out DRL power▶ 5:40
Morimoto includes a voltage-sensing box that decides when the car is on. John didn't like how it behaved on a car that sits a lot, so he tapped the DRLs into the fuse box instead and tucked the wire under the carpet.
- 6
Check the faults▶ 8:44
With the car on you get: headlight beam, dynamic cornering light failing, headlight beam adjustment faulty, corner light failure, plus a blinking warning light.
- 7
Code out the cornering system▶ 9:05
Foxwell → Porsche → Smart → let it detect the model and list the control units → 4 Programming → 8 Cornering light control → Coding. Set the headlight-beam entries to "not detected" (F1 to change the value, F3 to confirm, F3 again).
Tip: Afterwards, key off, wait 30 seconds, key on again to make sure the change stuck.
- 8
Unplug the swivel control module▶ 10:30
Pull back the footwell carpet and unplug the white clip on the module that controls the swivel. Otherwise it keeps pinging the system. On John's car it was on the driver's side, but it could be in the passenger footwell.
Tip: Give it a few drive cycles (10–15 minute drives).
- 9
Re-scan and clear▶ 11:37
Read codes in the gateway and front control systems and clear anything left. John ended with "system pass, no faults".
- 10
Aim the headlights▶ 13:38
His sat a little low, so he adjusted the aim afterwards.
Wiring notes
- DRL wire runs between both headlights (one end on one side, two on the other)
- John powered the DRLs from the fuse box instead of the included voltage-sensing box
- Unplug the swivel/cornering control module (white clip) in the footwell

0:00at the Porsche 997.2 with the upgraded adjustable headlight.
0:06So here's the before and after C2. So that's number four, programming. No flashing lights
0:20none of that and I'll go through all the settings. What's up guys? Hey John, we are back in here
0:26with another video. Today we'll be taking a look at the Porsche 997.2 with the upgraded
0:33adjustable headlights. These are the PD-LL. It basically moves left and right up and down too but
0:42they're a little bit tricky. We got the Morimoto headlights right here and these are basically the 992.1
0:50by Zenon that. We can call it by LED. They look great, it. Fantastic. Silver trimmer all the way around.
0:59So you guys can see that. You can see all the little lights and here are the
1:07.2s 997s headlights. So it's a little bit tricky on this one because there is a motor
1:14and what you can do is you can try to code them out. It's a hidden miss on top
1:19with the Porsche stuff but let's see if we can code them out so you don't get any errors. Right
1:24now there's no errors. Errors on the car because of the OEM headlights but if you get these Foxwells
1:30basically a little coder. Got this one on Amazon. You might be able to code them out so
1:38it's a proof of concept and there's very little documentation. Even Morimoto doesn't
1:44have any information on them. I emailed them a week ago and they said talk to Porsche. Porsche
1:50doesn't know what they're doing when it comes to messing with aftermarket headlights. Porsche
1:55technicians that are independent at least around me locally. They said they can't really do it. So
2:02they can try but it's going to be like back and forth and then of course it's going to be
2:06kind of a mess. You're trying to drive your car there. You're going to get air lights
2:09and then you're just going to go back to the OEM headlights. Which is fine. They look great
2:14and especially for Porsche purists. They like it. This is a test with a five lug conversion
2:22on the Z carbon ceramic brakes but so not too crazy about keeping it pure. Do your own
2:31style. Do whatever you want. Do whatever makes you happy. But okay enough with the
2:36intro. Let's get to these install of the headlights. It's actually very easy to
2:41install these headlights mechanically and then I'll show you some things about the DRLs. They're
2:47a little bit weird but let's just do it mechanically first. All right before we start make
2:53sure you have the Porsche light removal tool. So take the carpet out. Once you take the carpet out
3:00it's this tool right here. You basically pluck this out and then you just unmatch it. So it's
3:05very easy. It's very easy to use this tool to plop it out. Also more or less some good
3:13examples on how to take it out. Alright so I'm going to show you how it looks like. You basically
3:19unscrew this thing right here. It's being held by thread so you legitimately unscrew it. Once
3:26you unscrew it you're going to have a little rubber grommet right here. A little like plunger. Pull
3:32it out and you use the tool that I mentioned earlier to hit it from the plunger hole. What that
3:40does is it moves this thing right here. So you can see right here and when that happens you can just
3:48pull it out after you unmatch it. Now which. Now which way do you do you unscrew it
3:52with the tool? Clockwise. Alright so we have the DRL wire that needs to go here. So we have the DRL wire
3:59that needs to go here. So I have this little snake tool. You're going to see where it exits and that's how you're going to get the wire.
4:07This wire right here. There will be one end and the other one goes basically one and then there's two on the other side.
4:15That's going to terminate between both headlights. So plan accordingly.
4:19Alright so I have it kind of in place. It's got the DRL and now we just got to slide and connect that DRL wire and the rest of the wires are just attached to the main harness.
5:10Headlight looks great. It's in there good. It's plugged in. When you see it it goes right in.
5:23Before and after. Alright so the headlights are on. I haven't turned the car on or anything. The next thing I want to tackle is the DRLs.
5:40The DRLs are a little bit tricky because Morimoto does come with a box that you can use.
5:45Something like this. It basically for my understanding measures the voltage and when you turn on the car says hey the car is on because the voltage change.
5:55There's a learning process and so forth. The problem is a car like this is not your daily, daily driver or sometimes it stays on even when the car is off.
6:26and when you plug in a the and then your headlights also turn on.
6:32or the DRLs at least.
6:59That way we can.
6:59That way we can the connection and when the car.
7:28So.
7:30The DRL.
7:59I can get you know the I. So there's a fuse box. Super dark. See if I can adjust the ISO so you can see. So I had the wire kind of hanging out right here. But you can tuck it under the carpet. If you want it too. And I have it hooked up to C2.
8:00Good look at that.
8:03The URLs were.
8:09Then when you have the car on, if you have the dual projection headlights with the swivel
8:17you should get the headlight.
8:20Something about adaptive headlights, should get it.
8:37Should I start it?
8:44You'll get it.
8:46There you go.
8:48Headlight beam
8:49Dynamic cornering light failing
8:51Headlight beam adjustment faulty
8:53Corner light failure
8:55Then you get that blinking
8:57High beam light
8:59So we're going to go for coding I out
9:03Alright
9:05You want to use the Foxwell
9:07Get into the Porsche menu
9:09Let's hit the smart bin
9:11It will automatically detect your model
9:14Hit OK
9:15I know you might not be able to see it, but
9:18After that
9:19Wait until the control unit finishes the list
9:21Here I have 1, 2, 4
9:24And I want to get to the programming
9:26So that's number 4
9:28Programming
9:30Cornering light control systems
9:32That's number 8
9:39There you go
9:41Code app
9:43Coding
9:44Click on that
9:45It's going to read the bin
9:48Headlight beam not activity detected
9:53To not activity detected
9:56And you have these two to be not detected
10:00And then I have F1
10:02You press F1
10:03And then you can change the value
10:05F3 to confirm
10:07F3 to confirm again
10:09So I did that already
10:11Waited 30 seconds
10:13Turned the key off
10:14Took the key off
10:15Waited 30 seconds
10:16Took the key on again
10:17To see if it is
10:19If it stuck
10:20And it looked like it did
10:21Which is great
10:30I'll show you what module you need to uninstall
10:33Or otherwise it will keep pinging the system
10:37So there's this module in here
10:46Need to pull back this carpet
10:49And you'll see that little module right here
10:52I'm not going to be able to get a good view
10:54But what I'm pointing at right there
10:56Unplug the white clip right here
10:58And you should be set
11:01Give it a few drive cycles
11:0410 to 15 minute drive
11:06And should be good
11:08It's a little tight fit right here
11:10Here's the module right there
11:12Here's what I just unplugged
11:14And you can read the number
11:18This controls the swivel
11:21And it's all the way behind there
11:24Could be in your passenger footwell too
11:26Mine's right here
11:27And yeah
11:29See how it goes
11:30Just installed it
11:37This is gateway
11:38Here are the codes
11:44I'm going to like drives, communications
11:46112, 150, 151, 161
11:49In front control systems
11:54Read codes
11:56I'm getting system pass no faults
11:59So there's nothing to clear
12:01Alright
12:03So the only code that I had was
12:08And the control modules
12:15And we've got the gateway controls
12:17Read codes
12:19Up back here again
12:21Let's check cleared
12:22Alright
12:28So
12:30There it is the
12:31Hopefully you all can hear me
12:33The car is kind of loud
12:35But
12:37After changing all the settings
12:39Inside the Turbo S
12:41You can kind of see
12:45It's been on for a bit
12:49No flashing lights
12:51None of that
12:52And I'll go through all the settings
12:54That I showed you
12:56So I'm going to cut to maybe the pictures
12:58Because it was kind of like a
13:00On and off
13:02And you definitely have to unplug
13:04The front system
13:06That was actually something I had had to do
13:09But other than that
13:11So far there's no codes
13:13And let me flash the high beams
13:17You know turn signals
13:19Great
13:21It's on home right now
13:25The URLs are on
13:32No issues
13:34I'm pretty happy
13:36So yeah
13:38One thing I had to do was adjust the headlights
13:41Because they ain't kind of low
13:43Other than that
13:45The flashing blue lights right here
13:47That was really annoying
13:49So glad that's gone
13:51And with the Foxwell
13:53So you can pick this on Amazon
13:55If you guys are interested
13:57I'll put a link down below
14:01On where you can buy one
14:03The one that I used
14:05This exact one I used
14:07To model
14:09That I used to fix all the errors
14:11So sweet
14:13Alright so that concludes the video
14:15I'm on my iPhone
14:17Because I didn't bring my camera
14:19But yes
14:21Drove about 10 minutes
14:23I mean you can't really tell from what
14:25How bright it is
14:27But it is very bright
14:29And it looks great
14:31Installation of these were really good
14:33The coding part was so
14:35Difficult in terms of
14:37Not enough information
14:39Not even more emotos
14:41But if you code out everything
14:43And use a $200 scanner
14:45And you have the hardware
14:47Unplug the sensor
14:49The control module right there
14:51That's all it takes
14:53And
14:55I'm just really happy with the
14:57Overall in-game product
14:59It looks so good
15:01And it works
