OEM Illuminated Carbon Fiber Door Sills: Acura NSX Install

Pull the door seal and carpet, find the hidden plug under the black tape, trim the carpet clips, and tape the wire in its channel.

Pull the door seal and carpet, find the hidden plug under the black tape, trim the carpet clips, and tape the wire in its channel. This 7 min guide covers the Acura NSX (second generation shown); this is an Acura OEM / dealer option with tools, parts links and the full video.

Overview

John's first mod on his NSX keeps the car OEM plus: Acura's illuminated carbon fiber door sills, which he got through a friend at an Acura dealership. Each sill plugs into a hidden factory plug under the carpet, so no splicing is needed, but you do have to trim the carpet so the clips fit. Once installed, the NSX logo lights up with the door and fades out when you lock the car. He calls it a beautiful part that adds class, but says Acura charges way too much for it.

Video chapters

Step by step

  1. 1

    Check the parts▶ 1:16

Each side comes in its own packaging, with a protective film on the carbon. John left the film on for now to keep them minty.

  2. 2

Know that the carpet gets cut▶ 1:52

The sill's clips need the carpet trimmed underneath. It's the only way the clips go on so it's nice and secure.

  3. 3

Pull the seal and carpet▶ 2:10

Open the door, pull the door seal straight out, then pull the carpet back. Unscrew the screw underneath.

Warning: The screw area is pointy. Watch your fingers.

  4. 4

    Find the hidden plug▶ 2:44

Peel off the black tape to reveal a factory plug. That's what powers the door sill.

  5. 5

    Plug in and test▶ 3:07

Plug the sill into the harness (two small pins) and make sure it lights up.

  6. 6

    Trim the carpet plastic▶ 3:43

Cut the plastic under the carpet to match the template so the sill sits flush. John used a Dremel and put plastic down to catch debris; needle-nose pliers work too.

  7. 7

    Seat the sill▶ 4:33

Make sure the sill sits flush, tuck the wire out of the way and push it in.

  8. 8

    Tape the wire▶ 4:44

Cut the included aluminum tape in half and tape the wire into its channel per the instructions. Reinstall everything in reverse and zip-tie the wires back together.

  9. 9

    Driver's side▶ 5:11

The driver's side is pretty much the same. John had to remove one extra piece to reach where it plugs in.

  10. 10

    Lock and unlock▶ 6:14

With the door closed, the NSX logo still glows, facing outward. Lock the car and it fades out.

0:00What's up guys? It's your boy John. We're back again here with another video. This is going to be more NSX content

0:05So if you were interested in that perfect. All right for what we have here is going to be the door seal

0:10So I want to keep this car very OEM plus. The last video was kind of about the floor mats

0:17looking clean

0:18I really want the interior to look a little bit more spicy. So I got the door seals

0:24What are our door seals? They're pretty much the piece where you kind of step on

0:29to get into the car. Now these are illuminated. So they're going to some power boom right here

0:36So there's some harnesses and then we have carbon fiber illuminated door

0:42So now it's in the space packaging left. So it's probably on the driver side and then you got right

0:50for the

0:53The space packaging

0:57For the passenger side inside you got this nice egg crate. Packaging for the NSX parts parts are

1:04insane

1:16So I just want to show you guys the quality of the part

1:20If you guys were going to be interested of buying such an

1:25expensive part, but

1:27Hey

1:29Only the best for the NSX

1:31You're hurt

1:33So oh man that weaves nice

1:35They have it kind of filmed here for this is for the left side

1:38So I'm gonna keep the protective cover on

1:42Just

1:43I mean, this is something you'll step on but for now keep it a little bit more minty

1:52All right, so

1:54This should technically go right here

1:58But this will require you to cut

2:02The carpet so that's one thing that's kind of lane

2:05It's the only way these clips can go on it. So it's nice and secure

2:10Alrighty then first you want to do is will these open your door?

2:14Then. I kind of had things already and pulled out but pull up this

2:18Seal it just coming straight out

2:21Then you can pull the carpet out

2:24You'll see the screw unscrew it

2:29Ouch

2:30So it is pretty pointy

2:44Then after that you'll see that there's this blue or this black tape

2:52Take off the black tape

2:55And it will reveal

2:57a plug

2:59And this is the plug you're going to use to power

3:02the door sill

3:05so

3:07Door sill

3:09gets plugged into a harness

3:12And you'll have these little two small pins and you plug it

3:21in

3:24So now

3:26it illuminates

3:29sick

3:30your next stop is um

3:32Well after you find out that it lights up beautifully?

3:37I don't know if I can get them in the sun

3:41You can tell it's lighting up now

3:43and you want to cut these

3:46little things right here

3:48So it'll match

3:51These little pots and you should be set. All right second piece is cut

3:57I put these little

4:00Plastic things just so the little things don't splatter all the place

4:05Even the door is cutting with a dremel

4:08But you can use a needle nose and then you just got to pull this thing out

4:12All right, so after you trimmed all this stuff, which basically is the plastic

4:18underneath like there's a little template

4:20Uh, you should have something like this and then this

4:25also has a little like pivot point right here

4:28Or a little like I guess I don't say put a little hole right there

4:33And now this she should be sitting flush

4:37Make sure the wire is out of the way

4:42tucked in and then pushing

4:44All right. And the package does come with this aluminum tape

4:49So I cut it in half. So it looks something like this

4:52and per the instructions right here

4:56I have it so it's taped. You see the metal tape right here

5:01On the wire and that little channel

5:03And you just have to install everything in reverse

5:06And zip tie all these wires back together

5:11All right. And on the driver's side, it's pretty much the same as

5:25So you can kind of see this is the wire I'm tugging at and that, that's where it's going to be

5:32I had to remove the white

5:34That's not the best angle. I had to remove this and then you can see

5:40Where it's plugged in

5:44All right, that concludes the door sill carbon fiber illuminated oem factory option

5:51For the or dealer option

5:54For the NSX

5:56Um

5:57It is beautiful for sure. Is it worth it? I'll leave it to you guys. It does give that interior

6:03A nice bit of class and more

6:07In a vacation

6:08Of course you can see my premium mats too just making the interior just nice a good spot to be

6:14And then when you close it

6:16See if I can show you guys

6:18It is still lit right there if you can see the word NSX kind of facing outwards

6:24And if you lock the door

6:26It undoes itself or unlights itself locked unlock you see and unlock

6:33It kind of fades out super nice touch

6:36awesome product on the

6:38You guys charge it way too much. Thank you guys for watching. Catch you guys in the next one. Peace
