EVBASE 19" Aero Wheel Caps: Tesla Model Y (Gemini Wheels) Install

Pull off the stock caps, line the new cap's cutout up with the valve stem and press it on. The EVBASE clips lock it in with no rattles.

Pull off the stock caps, line the new cap's cutout up with the valve stem and press it on. The EVBASE clips lock it in with no rattles. This 7 min guide covers the Tesla Model Y with 19" Gemini wheels with tools, parts links and the full video.

Overview

John swaps the stock caps on a white Model Y for EVBASE turbine-style aero caps. They have no Tesla logo, so you can add your own decal, and they aren't directional, so all four are the same. EVBASE's clip mechanism clamps onto the wheel tightly, and an optional foam pad helps prevent rattles. He prefers these to the "ninja star" style because they cover more of the silver wheel face. Running the bare wheels isn't worth it to him, given the missing lug-nut and center covers and the lower range.

Tools & parts

Tools

    Parts

    • EVBASE 19" wheel caps (×4)
    • Center caps
    • Optional foam pads (adhesive)

    Step by step

    1. 1

      Check the caps▶ 0:37

Each wheel cap comes with a small center cap that goes over it. There's no Tesla logo, so you can add a decal if you want. Remove the backing from the center cap before fitting it.

    2. 2

      Check the direction▶ 1:28

Look at the blades before you install. These all point the same way, so they're not directional and any cap fits any wheel. (Some other EVBASE caps are directional so they always look like they're spinning forward.)

    3. 3

      Optional foam pad▶ 1:45

An adhesive foam pad can go around the cap to protect the wheel and prevent rattles. John finds the clips alone are good enough.

    4. 4

      Remove the stock caps▶ 2:33

Grab the stock cap and pull. You have to pull pretty hard.

    5. 5

Line up the valve stem▶ 3:00

EVBASE's clip mechanism clamps onto the wheel. Line up the cutout on the cap with the valve stem, then press the cap on.

    6. 6

      Check for rattles▶ 3:53

Give it a shake. It should be planted with no rattle. Repeat on the other wheels.

    7. 7

      Why this style▶ 5:03

These cover more of the wheel face. On the Model Y the wheels are silver, so the more the cap covers, the less silver shows behind it. With the ninja-star style you can really see the silver.

    8. 8

      Caps vs no caps▶ 5:41

The bare wheels look great, but with no lug-nut and center covers and the lower range, John says it's not worth it.

0:00What's up guys it's your boy John. We're back

0:18What's up guys it's your boy John. We're back again here with another video today

0:22We have a model Y. Now this model Y is beautiful nice white color, but these caps they're pretty ugly

    0:29So I got some EVBASE

0:31It's right here. I'm gonna be able to show you guys off

    0:35real nice

0:37Here this is gonna have a little center one center cap that I believe is it in there too

0:41Let me just pull this out. Look at this design. It looks like kind of like the induction wheels

0:47Which I really am a huge fan of

0:51And it's packaged really nice and here are the little caps

0:58Right here they go over it

1:00So these do not show any kind of Tesla logo or anything like that so you can put a decal on there if you want

1:09Let's check out this design a little bit more

1:13So this I know it's red, but the cap would go there. Let me demonstrate that

    1:20Beautiful

1:21Of course you take off the red backing, but it'll go some like that

    1:25Wow, this looks so beautiful

1:28Now let me open all of them because there is a certain direction

1:32Whether it's like, like this or like this so imagine like this and your car spinning like this

1:37It's cutting through from here, but if you go right like this

1:41The veins are facing the other way and it's kind of like that so

1:45I'm gonna see if these are directional and there's also a little adhesive

1:50I don't think I saw that if you want to protect the wheel you can put these this little foam pad around this

2:00That way it will prevent some rattles

    2:03If you have any

2:05Generally these clips alone are good enough for me. So if you look at these ones right here

2:10They all point the same way. So they're they're not directional

    2:15What that means is

2:18If you see I have a Model Y right here too the induction wheels are directional too

2:23So they're all the same size the other EVBASE air caps that I have our directionals. So

2:30They always look like they're spinning forward

2:33All right, let's go check it out right here. So to remove these it's pretty easy

2:38You you just grab it notice where the belt is and you pull now you have to pull pretty hardo hard, but once you pull it

    2:45will

2:47Show this beautiful face. I am gonna quickly

3:00This really helps lock it in this is why I like EVBASE they have this nice mechanism that really

    3:06Clamps into that

    3:16sticker on sticker

3:18I like the no logo look if you want to have your own little branding

3:28Now to match it up here. You want to look at this little cutout right here. So this is where your valve stem go

    3:38And

3:40Line it up and you just it's that easy. Oh

3:53I think it should pop in real good. See if it rattles at all. I'm shaking it is

    4:01Plant on real good

    4:05Check that out

4:07comparison between the back wheels and the front wheels it. It looks stunning. What do you think camera man?

4:14It's definitely a big improvement. I know a lot of people don't like these

    4:19Base model induction

4:26So this kind of there's so many blades it almost looks like a flower it looks like a turbine more flowery

    4:37That's beautiful

4:38So I'm gonna do this this one as well

    4:42real quick

    4:45Same process

    4:51Oh

4:53So again, they're clipped on pretty good, so they're not going where remove this back foam

4:59So then you guys have it. Oh, I think it's a big addition

5:03the reason why I like these over the other ones I had initially is because

5:09They cover more of the wheel now the model 3 the wheels are already dark the model y now is silver

5:17So the more it covers the face the less you see of the silver wheel on the back

5:23So if you look really close you can see the barrel of the wheel and it's silver and

5:28This is why I like this one for here the other ninja star one. You can really see the silver and I kind of distract me

5:36Let's look at the other side, and this is the silver side

5:41So we already removed the hub cast on these

5:43It's a great to be honest, but the lack of lug nuts and center caps and also the degraded in range

    5:52It's just not worth it

5:54So that kind of concludes it if you guys are interested in this product
