Overview
A plug-and-play upgrade for an older Ram. The screen lives in a new dash shell that replaces the factory single-DIN housing, and a ribbon cable runs to the small remote-mounted brains. The truck had no factory amp, so audio worked right away. John then walks through the UI, brightness, EQ and settings.
Vehicle & fitment
- Product
- iDoing Android 14 head unit for the Dodge Ram: large IPS touchscreen, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, octa-core, 128GB storage, remote-mounted "brains"
- Shown on
- Dodge Ram 1500 (2004 shown)
- Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500, 2002–2005 (per the description)
- The truck shown had no OEM radio harness (spliced by a previous owner), so John used iDoing's universal harness and wired it from the schematic. With the OEM harness it's plug-and-play.
Always confirm fitment for your exact year and trim with the seller before buying.
Tools & parts
Tools
- Phillips screwdriver
- Drill (to remove the plastic rivets)
- Plastic pry tool
Parts
- iDoing head unit, new dash shell and ribbon cable
- Remote "brains" module and mounting brackets
- Accessories: Wi-Fi antenna, mic, SIM slot, sub output
- Universal harness only if your OEM plug is gone
Step by step
- 1
Remove the bezel screw▶ 2:38
One Phillips screw at the bottom, by the little hook. After that the bezel is held only by clips.
- 2
Pop the bezel off▶ 2:57
Wiggle it free. Moving the shifter gives more clearance. Unplug the climate controls and cigarette lighter.
- 3
Drill out the plastic rivets▶ 3:49
The factory parts are plastic-riveted to the outer frame. Drill them out and gently pry the old housing off, since it's plastic on plastic.
Tip: The bottom rivets are the hardest to reach. Keep prying gently.
- 4
Fasten the new shell▶ 5:24
Use the supplied screws and washers in place of the plastic welds at seven spots. Don't overtighten. It adds rigidity.
- 5
Move over the climate control and pocket▶ 5:55
Reinstall the HVAC control and pocket on the new shell using the OEM points and hardware.
- 6
Test first▶ 7:09
Plug in and power it up before buttoning everything up.
- 7
Pair Bluetooth and CarPlay▶ 7:40
The unit shows up as "SYU Android", PIN 0000. Then open CarLink 2.0 for wireless CarPlay/Android Auto.
- 8
Mount and reassemble▶ 8:35
Mount the brackets loosely to mock up, then tighten the Phillips screws. Reconnect the climate controls and lighter, and don't forget that one bottom screw.
- 9
Settings worth changing▶ 10:45
Crank brightness to max to beat the sun, turn off key tones if you don't want beeps, and set automatic day/night mode. Vehicle/CAN settings won't do much on this 2004 truck.
Wiring notes
- Plug-and-play with the OEM harness, no splicing
- No factory amp on the truck shown, so audio worked immediately
- Without the OEM plug: iDoing's universal harness, matched wire by wire to the schematic

0:22So guys, it's your boy John. We are back again with another video. Today, we're gonna be installing a head unit on the Dodge Ram
0:30So, the unit we have here is the eye-doing head unit. Basically is a plug-and-play solution
0:37That means no splicing or anything like that
0:42Because it's plug-and-play. You look like a one screw and a few screws later. You're
0:48Good to go. So let me just show you all the wiring right here
0:54This is just kind of like the accessories if you try new subwoofers Wi-Fi anten and there's microphone SIM card slot we have a
1:05Kind of like the brackets to hold it in place. You can see there's' a bunch of stuff and the brains of the units itself
1:15It's nice and tiny
1:17And then the main piece that you really need to worry about is this right here. It actually it houses the new
1:27DIN or it's the the factory is a single-din unit and then we have a new enter head unit, which is great
1:34It's beautiful and then this little
1:39Ribbon cable if you want to call that goes to the brains
1:45installed remotely
1:48But yeah, let me just show you the install. It's pretty simple on truck
1:53All right, so the car we brought in is the the 1500 ram
1:58But the thing about this is we bought it used so it doesn't have the OEM harness the previous owner splice it up
2:06So eye-doing also has a kit where you have a universal thing and you can make to tie it to
2:13Something like this to, too. It's a little bit more tedious
2:17You just kind of match
2:20The information from the schematics to the wires here, kind of it's already labeled, but
2:27It is what it is
2:29If you have the OEM head unit, you're not gonna have to do this, but we're making
2:34Yeah, but there we go
2:38To remove this right here. There's one screw on the bottom
2:42Right here you kind of see by the little hook you removed it with a Phillips and
2:47The whole thing is kind of just clipped in after that after you get that one screw out
2:57It's helped by clips, so we removed the cigarette lighter right there, but
3:01He's gonna wiggle sometimes you can remove the move around the transmission shift
3:08to give it a little more clearance the whole thing just pops off real easy and
3:14Just let it just unplug the AC climb control if you need to to make some more clearance
3:20And then, then we have one for the cigarette lighter as well
3:29And that reveals this whole cavity here that that's where the single den's gonna kind of live
3:43And then it's gonna' remote mount to go up a little bit higher
3:46After that we're
3:49All right, so because the Dodge Ram
3:52This is gonna be a little bit Most part is the it's plastic riveted on
3:58So you just got to drill it out and you can see all
4:13This piece all right, so I roughly got it kind of
4:26Just smoke the holes a little bit and then now I'm just prying it out as you can see
4:30Try to be gentle because there's plastic on plastic
4:33So you got to, to keep that in mind and this part is you kind of pray
4:39Prying pray a little bit there you go
4:45The bottom one is going to be a little bit hard to get to
4:48But
4:49That you just keep prying it
4:53Just a little pride
4:59There you go, so we have it out and now
5:06We can
5:09Putter in the new one
5:12Just demonstrate that real quick
5:15the new one will also boost the rigidity
5:24All right, so we have some fasteners right here
5:28You put the washer on top and then you just use the fasteners
5:32to
5:33Basically instead of that plastic weld
5:39Actual fasteners now screws and of course you don't want to torque it too hard. So be gentle and
5:47Yeah, you do that to one two three four four five six seven
5:52Spots and you're. Good
5:55After you put all the fasteners in here
5:57We're just reinstalling the climate control h-fax system control and then there's a little pocket
6:03And you we just we're just screw it in so it's pretty self-explanatory
6:07Reusing the OEM points
6:10OEM hardware on the new shell and
6:15Yeah, it's pretty self-explanatory
6:17All right, so we have it installed right here. So
6:23We're reusing these the outer frame the newer frame is what we did
6:27so we took the plastic rivets out bolted on the new ones with screws actually and
6:34We have the AC climb control from the old shell
6:38Right here and then the pocket as you can see so everything is feels very rigid
6:43there's no like what's going on here and
6:47this should pop in to the OEM area because it uses the main OEM outer so
6:53Very happy with it. I love the fitment. The finish is also a little bit different
6:59In the original the original had
7:01So you don't have that anymore
7:04But it kind of matches the actual these vents more than the OEM one so
7:09Yeah, all right, so we have applied in to the thing first start up
7:25Instant boo, that's good. That's a good good sign
7:30Yeah
7:32It's beautiful
7:33There you go. So we'll wrap it up and see how it goes. All right
7:40So we're just gonna hook up our phone through bluetooth
7:43The name is SYU Android. I don't know if y'all can see that. It's very reflective in here and
7:49We're gonna connect it to an iPhone the pin number should be like zero zero zero zero and we're connected to SC which is
7:58our phone's name and
8:02Let's go to car polink 2.0
8:05it's connecting and
8:12Verification approved. So now we have Android Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
8:17Alright, so everything works carplay works phenomenally the audio works. There's no factory amp on this
8:24So the sound just worked from the rip and then as far as everything else
8:29We're just gonna plug it in mount the brackets get it nice and tucked and clean it all up
8:35All right, so we're just doing the mounts right there
8:40We're gonna have it a little bit loose so we can kind of mock it up. All right after you put it in
8:46We're just doing those
8:48Phillips 2.2 and that's pretty much gonna live
8:52Plug everything up that we unplugged
8:55You're talking about the climate controls
8:58the
9:00cigarette lighters and
9:02What not don't forget that one screw
9:05Test your work. Okay
9:13So when you unplug and re-plug it in it's gonna do the cold boot, but you can keep it on the the accessory
9:20Once it's plugged in sometimes it's like your phone it go in sleep mode. Well preserve the battery
9:27Better
9:30Alright, here's the UI
9:33It's really hot so I have the AC on but the UI the eye doing is absolutely beautiful
9:39I love the wallpaper. It really demonstrates the IPS screen
9:43So you get great viewing angles and just the color saturation
9:47I would say even revels my iPhone. Okay, my iPhone's old it too. So very impressive that these colors just pop
9:55Resolution super high definition. It looks like to be
9:59Almost it's 720 it's HD for sure 720p or 1080p
10:04I'll post the specs, but the colors and let me just show you the viewing angles
10:08Look at, uh, like it it's not shifting the colors not shifting or anything
10:14So it's very impressive. Now the whole UI itself is beautiful, but the orientation is kind of
10:21as a passenger
10:23It's more directed towards the driver and which is great too and I also keep in mind that I have the
10:30Included screen protector you can kind of see it right there
10:34The owner wants to keep it on so I'm gonna respect his wishes
10:40You know you you gotta keep that screen looking fresh
10:45Let's see as far as brightness you want to crank
10:49Let's crank it up all the way to the max that way it kind of beats the Sun. There you go
10:54So that's with the max brightness. Let me kind of show you guys that main menu
10:58Wow, that looks beautiful
11:00and
11:02Yeah, let's just go through over the UI as you saw I was going through the backgrounds
11:08There's a bunch of software in here applications the one that most people are gonna be using is car link
11:14So Apple CarPlay Android Auto. That's how I use my systems
11:19It's also a carpet link, which might be like some kind of phone screen sharing
11:25You got its own
11:28Got some settings right here. I'm not sure if they'll work or not. Let's see
11:33Auto door lock
11:35So if you had can bus it would actually be able to
11:39Maybe do any of these but it looks like it's not working because it's not hooked up to the computer
11:44This is 2004 so it isn't older car, but so vehicle settings you're not gonna be able to do much the EQ right here
11:53We have front left you can choose your stuff or go into that to to it right here check your
12:00fader settings
12:02It's all there. I'm telling you it sounds so much better than OEM
12:05And it sounds way better than the aftermarket one that we had
12:09So just know that the whatever you have
12:14You're probably having an upgrade with this
12:18As far as car link so Apple CarPlay
12:23What what it does shakes through Bluetooth, then it
12:28Goes through Wi-Fi to your Android off your Apple CarPlay
12:32Alright, so we have I have ways open right here, but yeah, this is just the Android Auto
12:38X part the Apple CarPlay experience. Here's the. Widgets from the new iOS and
12:45You know got on data right here
12:48See the app doors just looking really beautiful, and you know something I a really appreciate
12:56so
12:58That's good there
13:01Let's go into settings
13:05Love the Apple the aikons will remind me of Apple the way it looks so I feel very familiar with here like all the stuffs
13:14GPS
13:15Bluetooth general
13:18Here's to some of the settings if you guys were interested I'm just gonna skim through, through it. I'm not gonna really
13:24Factory settings so if you want to change your boot loaders and stuff like that
13:29And this is what it thinks it is if we had the canvas set up a Subaru Forester
13:35but we don't have any of the
13:38Canvas information going into the system so you don't have to worry about that
13:43Backlight you can it off of the. Lamps so when you turn your headlights
13:50You can always keep the light lamps on these little like I guess there's no
13:54Panel whites anyways, and then you can
14:25Visibility and then automatic day and night mode
14:29So I'm gonna do it on this so you guys can see a little bit, clear
14:33Sounds, so if you don't want that beat noise that it's making you can turn off key tone
14:39Noises so now I won't have that anymore some people like to have it
14:42It's on by default so you can basically have more haptic feedback where you get a little noise and some just
14:50Little vibrations along your body with the sound
14:54Then you can see more stuff right here storage we have a hundred and twenty eight gigabytes of storage
15:02So if you want to put movies applications
15:06Plenty of storage and then about device here's the build number the app
15:11It looks like a two thousand by two hundred so over ten hit like yeah, the screen did look over 1080p
15:18Super sharp text is in crazy sharp. You can see the storage the memory. It's on an octa-core. CPU
15:25blue tooth right here Android version 14 and
15:32Now we didn't hook up any
15:36Sin card, but this cart also has some information here's some more information about the apps
15:44That's a little more detail, but that's pretty much it of you guys were interested in this product
15:49It was very easy to install. It's very beautiful
15:52I'll leave a link down below where you can buy the I doing head unit and
15:58Yeah, so thank you guys for watching. I'll catch you guys in the next one. Peace
