Overview

John's friend road-trips a lot and wanted a big screen with real knobs. The Dasaita double-DIN kit includes a Honda-specific plug-and-play harness, a trim kit and a CAN bus box. It's a bare-bones install: main harness, antenna, GPS, Wi-Fi, mic and USB, then the hazard button moves to the new trim.

  • Zip ties (included)

Parts

  • Dasaita 10.2" head unit + trim kit with rubber mounting pieces
  • Honda plug-and-play harness + CAN bus box
  • GPS and Wi-Fi antennas, mic, USB extensions
  • M3/M4 screen screws, side brackets

Step by step

  1. 1

Pop out the two vents▶ 5:15

They're held by clips. Use the included trim tool. The CR-V plastic isn't brittle.

  2. 2

    Remove the screws▶ 5:50

Removing the vents reveals a black screw on each side. Take both out and pull the radio assembly.

  3. 3

    Unplug everything▶ 6:34

Four plugs plus the hazard button on top. One plug is tricky: push down, then pull.

  4. 4

    Plug in the harness▶ 8:30

The four OEM plugs match the four on the Dasaita harness. The one with the blue tag is the radio antenna, plus main power and accessories. The main black cable goes into the back of the unit, plus the AM/FM lead. The red CAN bus box carries car data like AC temps.

  5. 5

    Test before reassembly▶ 11:09

Boot it, pair Bluetooth (it then jumps into Z-Link for wireless CarPlay/Android Auto), try the radio, and check every speaker: left, right, front, rear.

  6. 6

Set the CAN bus profile▶ 16:00

Choose radio region America, then CAN bus → Honda → CR-V (pick the right year), apply and exit. It reboots with the CR-V data.

  7. 7

    Move the hazard button▶ 17:09

Remove the two screws holding it to the old bezel, transfer the clips (red ones to the bottom, six total) and fit it in the new trim.

  8. 8

    Accessories and brackets▶ 18:14

Route the optional USB, plug in GPS, Wi-Fi and mic, and fit the side brackets so it's hard-mounted.

  9. 9

    Test-fit the trim and screen▶ 19:26

Test-fit several times. John added the extra included trim piece for a tighter finish. The top screen screws come in M3 and M4, and he could only get the M3s in. The screen tilts and adjusts. Pop the vents back in.

0:12Very cool

0:22What's up guys? It's your boy John. We are back again here with another video today

0:27The day we'd be taking a look at the CR-V

0:302012 model and we're gonna be installing an Android head unit that can do Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

0:36and wirelessly. I got the product from here now

0:40This is one of my favorite products. It's from the SIDA and it's their double-din kit

0:44So I have their little trim piece that you get and then I have the radio itself

0:51Let me show you the radio

0:53and it's gonna be a little bit bigger because

0:58my friend wants it to be like a bigger screen with knobs and he

1:04Let me just open it. It's wrapped really nicely

1:09So the knobs are really easy. He's a little bit more

1:13into like physical controls so you'll still have like home buttons and maps and whatnot, but then you'll also have

1:20These tuning knobs which is what he wants. Now, he also has thermal controls and what not to probably not sure about the

1:29Honda CR-V, but

1:32They generally cover all bases here

1:37And here is the trim piece comes with

1:41some trim

1:43some thin kit, the plastic

1:47It's like a little rubber mounting kit. So it'll make it look all aesthet-ally. Nice. So it'll probably sit some like this

2:02You see that?

2:03Very nice and then the hazard button kind of go on top of like that.

2:10Very very cool

2:13the rest of this box is kind of contain harnesses

2:17But before we go into harness, I just want to see the trim pieces because I'm curious about that myself

2:23There is a harness here as well, and I'm pretty sure this is Honda specific

2:28So you don't need a wire or solder or anything. It's a plug-and-play kit

2:34Very nice. Oh

2:36And I just want to show you the brains of it

2:38So we saw the display and the brains of it. It's gonna have certain specs as well

2:44It's gonna be on the top of the box. Let's see what we have here

2:46So I have the 6 gig of RAM 64 gigs of storage., we can have

2:53The upgraded audio

2:54which is the digital

2:56I can't remember but DTS is better sounds it's gonna have gyroscope

3:02So it can show you the pitch and the yaw your car and you could upgrade this to the 360 video

3:09Surround sound that's really nice cause the Qualcomm processor and

3:15HDMI and, and optical out

3:18But yeah, let me just open this so you guys can see how it looks

3:24So we have the HDMI right here

3:26The pins in the back and then all the accessories. These are gonna be your stereo controls your power

3:34for the rear camera if this car is a rear camera and tennis for the

3:394G which is 4G 5G kind of connectivity

3:44That's basically your cellular signal if you have it you need, you need a SIM card for that

3:49Your Wi-Fi and here here's your optical out with your GPS antenna. Right on the top right there

3:55And then this ones will be your AM and FM radio

3:58But you can kind of see in. the front right here. There is a little port and

4:04That kind of sticks right here so this, kind of goes in there and that's how, you get display it's really nice because you can tilt it

4:15Depending on what angle you want it. It's a really nice display

4:19But uh, yeah, let's actually get into the car and get it

4:24Making it look pretty all right so we are in the Honda and it looks really nice but

4:33That screen up there isn't a screen, but this right here is where the radio sits and guess what it doesn't do anything

4:40So we're gonna have this that way the user can

4:44Have navigation

4:46He does a lot of road tripping to you know, Sacramento to Bakersfield and having it a nice display will give him

4:54Ways, Apple Maps, Google Maps and so forth

4:59And when he is navigating through menus of Spotify music it's gonna all be there, for him, so let!

5:04Let me get started for him and take care the first thing you need to do. It's actually really easy

5:11Let me set you guys now

5:14You're gonna

5:15The first thing you need to do is remove these two vents and it's just helped by clips now the decided kit comes with zip

5:21ties and

5:22Some plastic trim removal tools and you want to remove the trim kind of like this

5:28Just kind of get it working

5:31Now this is a

5:37New but look it came out really easily and the Honda plastic still it's it's not that brittle

5:44So that that's great news here when you do that it's gonna reveal a screw, which I'll show you guys in a bit

5:50But that's you have to do both sides

5:55Boom reveals both sides. I'll show you the screw real quick one here. It's gonna be this black one right here

6:03And there's gonna be one on the other side

6:06You can choose imagination. So let's pull it out. It's good. So after those two bolts are removed

6:18This is what

6:34They're out after that you have to remove the wires

6:37The wires are all hanging on the back so anything that's plugged into back here

6:43You're gonna have to remove certain things like this might have

7:08All make sense this one a little tricky you push down and then you pull like this the plug

7:17Honda generally. Doesn't do that. I know BMW's generally do like that, but yeah it's out

7:22All right so with all the plugs I was one two three four. Then you have the

7:28top one. This top one is the hazard button. So we're gonna have to

7:33Transfer this button out to but you can tell they're whole

8:03Ones with the harness. I'll show you the wiring to kind wn get it started started komm

8:07Gann and walk you through w.

8:09What happens when you plug in? All right, let me go over. What came into this bag right here that has power cables and accessories

8:18are more likely the power cables and let me just kind of through the half

8:23It's, so it's double-pack was kind of nice.

8:26You. Alright, so you're going to a see a lot of wires. It's a going to look intimidating

8:30but you just just have to. Plug it and play it. So don't Worry too much about it. And

8:35this. This main one, right here, which is this black cable. That one

8:41that's going to plug into the back of this. Head unit right here you. Here. Okay.

8:47This red box will generally control the brains of the data signal of the car.

8:54So, of the, of the car. So let

9:01have it potentially.. If it has, uh, if it has data going to the head unit, it can show you the.

9:05AC temperature, like Celsius. Yes, front, and you're a dash.

9:12camera as well. So many plugs in here right now. Yeah, and yeah, pretty much. We're just going to plug in chug.

9:21Then from there we'll see what works and, and what doesn't work. All right. So we had four cables coming out of the OEM

9:31head unit. Now I have four here. One, two, three, four. This small one right here with the blue tag right here

9:38is going to be your radio antenna. This is going to be your main power source. And most likely these are going to be

9:44your accessories like, uh, rear either rear speakers or which is like the pop purple colors or the, you

9:52know, the reverse camera and the doors opening in and out. So on the other side we're going

9:59to talk about the back of this one. This one was the main one we're talking about. So let's plug that bad boy

10:07in and then we also have the, this cable right here is going to plug into that. That's going to be your

10:16AM FM radio, which is awesome. And that's all we really need to plug in the back. I know it has a bunch of all these.

10:27This is just extra stuff for RCA jacks that we can

10:35This is a kind of bare bones install

11:09which is great. Hopefully y'all can see that on camera. So it's got a boot for the first time. So it's going to do a lot of

11:20like, it's

11:39which is great. And then we're going to see here

11:53I want to test everything in terms of apple car playing Android because that's pretty much as 2026. of

12:01this car came out in 2012. So it's a little dated. And that's what we're here for. So we're going to hit that magnifying glass.

12:09I have an iPhone 17 pro. So it's searching. It sees my

12:15my 17 pro. I'm going to click on that and then I'm going to hit this Bluetooth, pairing button. Hopefully

12:22that's showing up in the camera. It might be kind of hard.

12:46All right. So, I just put the keys in and we have the navigation screen loading up, which is

12:53awesome. Exactly what we want, we have again, home, map, back, map, audio, radio, phone. This is the

13:022D knob for probably cycling. And then this is the volume.

13:07And you can already hear it when I'm scrolling through the volume knob. Awesome. That's what we want to hear.

13:12Now there's radio. Let's try to find a station.

13:21There you go. It sounds super clear, which is great. Now the client actually uses

13:26AM and FM radio. So even in my garage, multi-tier house

13:31signal is strong. For me, if you have one of these head units, you want to go to Bluetooth and then hook up your iPhone or Android Auto.

13:43So the pen is going to be, so I have my iPhone 17 Pro right here. I'm going to hit pair.

13:53Once now, once you pair it through Bluetooth, it's going to instantly kick to this application called Z-Link.

14:01And Z-Link will let you have Apple CarPlay wirelessly, which is awesome. And there you go.

14:09All right. So we have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is just YouTube music. I'm going to test it real quick.

14:35Make sure the left speaker, right speaker, front, rear is all working.

14:41All right. So I just checked every speaker. You should too. It sounds great.

14:47Again, it's not fully installed. I'm just testing things to make sure it is functioning the way I want before I put it back.

14:56So this is great. This is good enough for me. And I'm going to clean it up, show you guys how to reinstall everything such as the hazard button for the new home

15:09because you want to make everything look tidy and kind of OEM. And we're going to add additional things like USB to the sides.

15:17And steering wheel controls, of course. I'm going to make sure that all works. I'll show you guys how to do that as well.

15:23So let me just wrap everything up and clean it up and show

15:53a bunch of all cool stuff. You can set your car logo when you first boot it up. You have to radio America.

16:00So it's going to be, you know, the frequency range you can pick from can bus. Now we're going to select a can bus from

16:08we want to Honda. So let's just do all Honda. And we wanted to do CRV should be the 12, but there's so many to choose from.

16:28From, from what I see we're going to there's a 15 there's a 12

16:32And it Reboot. Yes. So you had to apply and then exit. Sorry, if you guys couldn't see that, this might be a little crooked too.

16:47What's going to reboot the system with the CRV information. Hopefully that will unlock a few more cool things that the head unit will do.

17:02Now the backup camera. I believe you can option it up right now. It shows up on the top screen.

17:09Alright, so I took the hazard button off the original one right here. You can see it was just held by two screws.

17:21Now we just have to, we just have to transfer these clips over as well. Get a nice and clean and flush to remove these clips.

17:29You want to be gentle but you kind of just

17:40So just remove these clips. I kind of do this and it's kind of usually just pops out.

17:45But again, your results maybe you want to use two hands.

17:49And once you popped it out. Yeah, stick it back into the new home.

17:59Can I, that's the wrong way. These red ones go to the bottom like this.

18:05Kind of be kind of loosey-goosey. But you're going to need them that way it holds in place.

18:11Just do that for six of them.

18:14Alright, so wiring is pretty simple here. I have the accessories optional if you want USBs.

18:31But I route to that pretty much snipped it. So it kind of goes in here.

18:37And then the other end of that USB sticks out right here.

18:41So this little brown port will be plugging into the back of the head unit.

18:48These ports right here, the on the circular

18:50I put in the GPS and the Wi-Fi antenna. That's all we really need.

18:54The rest is in the microphone. If you want to do a little microphone.

18:59I, I have the microphone plugged in right there as well.

19:02And yeah, all we have to do is finish it up by installing it.

19:08If you can already tell from here, I installed the brackets like this.

19:13Brackets on this side too.

19:18And that way it's going to be hard mounted. It's not going to go anywhere.

19:23We just got to put it back together.

19:26Alright, so this is kind of the trim piece with the mountings.

19:30Now I haven't bolted it in yet.

19:32But it looks like something like this.

19:34Keep in mind that you do need a bolt than this part right here.

19:38So then it doesn't go anywhere.

19:40That's what I highly recommend doing. I just wanted to see the fit and how it kind of sits.

19:46So you want to do a lot of test fittings.

19:48It's going to be kind of going a lot in and out to make sure everything is up to your specification.

19:53I also added this extra trim piece that was included in the kit. You don't have to.

19:58It gets a really nice tight finish.

20:01You can make it nicer.

20:04But it is something that you have to kind of play with too to make it the way you want it to look.

20:11Alright, so just going to bolt everything in.

20:14And we'll see how it looks like at the end.

20:19The screen protector is on and the sun is on it.

20:22But the hardest thing would be to

20:25mounting those two screws up-top.

20:27So there's M3s and M4s.

20:30I was only able to get the M3s in top.

20:33But that will hold the on the screen in place.

20:36and you can adjust it.

20:39Left and right like this so you can move it up.

20:41You can even tilt it right.

20:43Tilt it left and it's pretty secure on there.

20:47And now I just have to plop in the AC vents and we are golden.

20:51Alright, so the head unit is installed.

20:55Just love the protecting thing for my friend if he still wants to keep it.

21:04Instant boots on.

21:06Kicks on to Android Auto Apple CarPlay.

21:09And you can see this in real time.

21:11It is pretty fast.

21:13It's reading my phone.

21:15My phone is handshaking it right now.

21:17And badda bing badda boom.

21:19CarPlay on

21:22My phone.

21:24And it's working.

21:28Alright, so that's the link.

21:30I just want to go through the interface real quick.

21:32Hopefully that is showing up pretty clearly.

21:35But we have all everything kind a setup right here with the settings and car applications.

21:42Let me go through system settings.

21:46And we can kind of see that you can set the time.

21:51I need to change that time.

21:53The wrong time.

21:59Applicable to Android 13.

22:02No sin.

22:04This has an octa core.

22:066GB

22:08Very cool.

22:11And...
