Unplug the MAF, pull the rubber nipples and two top clips, drop in the Sprint filter (same element Spoon rebadges), and enjoy louder turbo spool and recirculation sounds. This 6 min guide covers the Acura Integra Type S DE5 and Civic Type R FL5 stock airbox with tools, parts links and the full video.

Overview

The easiest turbo-noise mod for the stock FL5/DE5 airbox. Sprint's drop-in (~$130 at John's door) is the same filter Spoon sells for much more. Installation is minutes: MAF unplug, rubber nipples, two clips. Sound is clearly louder than OEM — more spool and recirculation — with windows down especially.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Why Sprint over Spoon▶ 0:26

Same filter element; Sprint was ~$128 out the door for John vs Spoon's much higher markup.

  2. 2

    Open the airbox▶ 1:21

Unplug the MAF, pull the rubber nipples off each side, then release the two clips on top and fold the lid open.

  3. 3

    Swap the filter▶ 1:56

Pull the OEM panel filter (John's was still clean at ~200 miles), match the notch on the Sprint filter, and drop it in.

  4. 4

    Reassemble▶ 2:39

Clips on, nipples seated, MAF plugged back in.

  5. 5

    Sound check▶ 2:58

Drive it. Expect more turbo spool and recirculation noise than stock — still subtle with windows up, obvious with them down.

Tip: Description notes forum MPG/sound comparisons vs K&N and PRL.

0:11What's up guys, it's your boy John. We back again with another video. We are working with the

0:16Acura Integra type S today and what's neat is we're going to be doing some performance bits. That's why the hood's open

0:24Kind of excited now when it comes to sound and volume this Integra sounds great exhaust-wise, I think

0:34But I do want to hear a little more turbo noises because that's what makes me a

0:39Warm inside. So we'd be replacing the OEM filter with the Sprint filter. Now these filters are pretty expensive. I got to knit a hundred and thirty bucks

0:50At my door. So I was like 128 something after shipping and tax. That's pretty expensive

0:55Here is the drop-in filter. You can see it's kind of translucent. Should be able to filter everything

1:01The reason why it's so expensive is this is what the big boys use

1:05130 bucks gets you this spoon doesn't has the same filter because this company makes it for spoon

1:12And it's like 300 bucks for some some kind of crazy markup because it's spoon engines

1:17But yeah, we'll be able to drop in this thing and real quick

1:21For neutral of the filters actually really easy all you have to do is

1:27I mean

1:29Take this mass sensor off his unplug it over here. You're gonna see these little rubber

1:34nipples you kind of just pull on it just so it's off. It's just made out of rubber. So there you go one side off

1:41And the other side is off and at the very top there's going to be two clips

1:52When folding this comes off like that

1:56And voila look at that

1:59Look how clean this is this is 200 miles. So it's already pretty clean. Now we're replacing it with

2:08This one right here

2:10This spring filter you can kind of see the

2:14The difference right there

2:17This one's definitely

2:19I see through you can kind of see how much thicker that bad boy is

2:23Now there is a little notch right here

2:27What a match it like that

2:33Plop this bad boy in

2:39So yeah, there goes screws two clips two little nipples make sure that's plugged back in and

2:46Set this aside 200 miles

2:49Still looks pretty clean. There's some dust in there

2:53Um

2:54Let's get that sound clip. We are done test driving

4:50With the new sprint filter and I got to say it was

4:54Amazing now. I've always loved induction noises. So

4:59Growing up with Honda's and all that that BTEC crack and all that. I love the sound of the

5:05the the suction noise

5:07And with the sprint filter it gives me all the turbo noises

5:11Similar to back when I had the WRX you can hear the turbo now especially with the windows up

5:18It's still

5:19Kind of hard to hear with the windows up

5:21But you do hear it now versus before you can barely hear it

5:26So but with the windows down you can hear a lot better

5:30Both with the new filter and the OEM filter

5:33But this one has a different tone to it

5:36And it's a decibel wise it is louder

5:40Hey, I like that turbo noise. You can hear it spooling up

5:43And then you can hear it when you close the throttle plate

5:46You can hear it recirculating here that

5:50Sounds awesome

5:51And with the it compliments with the

5:56exhaust

5:57It's beautiful

5:59Anyways, if you guys were interested in this product

6:02I'll leave a link down below. I'm not feeling it and if you got this far

6:05Make sure you like comments. Subscribe. Smash that like button

6:09Because I really want to do more videos on the Integra

6:11But I see if the algorithm helps me out

6:13So I can fund these. I was like 128 bucks out the door

6:20So

6:21Thank you guys for watching. I'll catch you guys in the next one

6:23Peace
